Thanks B'sNukeMoM, I'll check into that! I bet... I get teary thinking about hugging him again. Been forever it feels...lol. <3
JeffsMom - Southwest is good to use - that's what we always do (we are in Cali). We didn't get to go to PS grad because of the fact that he had to re-comp. The test was the next week after graduation! We had tickets and were ready to go but had to cancel. We are using those tickets this week to fly to BS to visit him. Can't wait to see him!
Thanks B'sNukeMoM and Wendy4Cody, this helps. Yes, he's on mandatory study. He says he's happy just passing these exams, because they are so difficult for him. And he's pressing on. We live in Washington State and were planning to go to his graduation (of course), but this all puts a damper on that... not sure about buying a ticket until the very end. Guess refundable or non-restrictive is our best bet. We'll just keep praying and hoping he makes it through. I appreciate all the support! I'll post more when I hear.
I don't check this group often - the Nuke Mom's group is where most of the activity is....and thus a better place to pose your questions!
Zoraida - I am sorry to hear that your son is feeling down. I am hoping since you posted that you have spoke with him and things are better for him...please encourage him to step out of his comfort zone and try to make friends. Hopefully he has made some friends in class and once they phase up they can start doing a little more together.
JeffsMom - I'm sorry to hear that your son is struggling. PS is a big change from A school. Tell your son to continue to ask for help and just keep working at it.....hopefully it will all "click" soon for him. My son was about the middle of the road in his class and was always on mandatory study hours. When it came time for PS comps he didn't pass that final test! (They have to pass comps in addition to the regular tests.) There were close to 30 of them that didn't pass (if my memory serves me right) and they had to re-comp one week later (this was in December). They all passed the re-comp and now he just started prototype on Monday in Ballston Spa. He said he spent about 70 hours studying that week in order to pass. Basically tell your son to try not to worry about it (that just wastes brain energy!). Get the extra help (which he probably is on mandatory hours), ask questions and have faith in himself! And just remind him that no matter what happens it isn't the end of the world!
Hi all, I am in contact via text with my son a lot. He's at PS and is struggling. He's toward the bottom of his class, but is hanging in there. He's getting help and studying tons, but I'm concerned. I feel like he's doing everything he can, but we've never had him struggling in school. But, he also didn't pursue tougher classes in high school. He took a year off before deciding to sign up for the Navy and then scored high and his recruiter pushed him toward being a Nuke. We couldn't be more proud of him, but August 1 is his grad date and he is worried...so we are worried. Does anyone know how many of our sailors actually make it through PS? Is it a low number???
Hello all!
Zoraida--I know its hard hearing when they are down. Keep telling him positive things. I know when my son was at school and feeling down, I always told him to remember he was never alone. God is always with him. I will pray for your son.
Just saying Hi for now. Daughter is at RTC with PIR on 5-9-14. She qualified for Nuke school and I'll be more informed as time goes on. Meanwhile, I will be happy to read as much information as I can get. Thank you all for sharing.
