Thanks. So if we had them drive our stuff and then me and my husband drove our car, and the navy paid us back at the end, would that be a navy move?

I'm not a wife-- but I would have to say that's a Navy move. You can't just rent your own uhal, pack it up, and ask the Navy to drive it though... In order to do a DITY move you or your husband, or someone in your family, would have to drive the Uhaul. With the Navy move, the Navy hires a moving company to come pack up alll of your stuff (like put it in boxes and everything, you can't life a finger), and they'll deliver it to your house down in SC. You could take clothes and whatever other necessities in your car and drive it down to SC.

Is that confusing. I hope I was clear enough :/

Hello. So we're moving from Oregon to South Carolina and I was just wondering, if we want to drive our car there but have the navy drive the uhaul with all our stuff in it is that considered a navy move or a dity move?

Hey ladies! For any of you who are living Navy Wives (or fiances) living in South Carolina there is a facebook group that can also help you with any questions.  It's also great to use for meeting other ladies in the area before you move or when you get down here.  I joined before I moved and it helped soo much with all the questions I have and it's great to meet some of the girls before you actually move down!

I don't blame you at all!  We will do a Navy move every time from now on, no question!  We had to pay for his ticket home to get me so I'm not sure what they mean about that either...but then again it could have to do with the DITY vs Navy Move.  I'm not sure.  I'm still trying to figure out all of this! But the good thing with being a Nuke is they get you out here really quickly compared to all other rates in the Navy. My husband graduated July 10, 2010 and we pulled into our driveway on base on the 27th...you can't beat that!

Hey, thanks! Helps a lot. He said if they "flew him all the way back to Oregon it would be more expensive for them" which doesn't make sense, it's just the same as paying to fly me there...oh well. Hopefully we will be able to drive. I'd like to take our dog in the car with us. I think we're gonna do the move where the navy drives the uhaul for us...I dont know much about it yet but I don't want to be stuck in a uhaul AND pulling our car behind. Especially from Oregon! Long drive.

My husband flew to SC and then to Dallas to get me a week or two later.  We did a DITY move and drove to SC after that..not sure why they said you'd fly here by yourself because everyone I know here on base had their husbands drive back to SC with them.  Our dogs rode in our UHaul with us...for three days. NOT fun!  I would call again if you can. Did you speak to the Indoc office?

hey ladies, question here. My husband who is in week 6 of basic told me on the phone call that the navy would be flying him back here to Oregon and we would drive together to SC after graduation. But today the Navy told me that most likely he will not fly back here, I will fly by myself to Charleston. So which one is it? What did your husband do and which is more likely? Also, if you have a doggy, how did you get it out to SC with you? Mine is pretty nervous and I don't think she'd do good in the plane cargo.

Hello! I am going to spend a few days in Charleston with a friend, and really wanted to use the opportunity to visit my Sailor. The only problem is, his phone hasn't been working and there's a good chance it still won't be the weekend I get there. I was wondering if there was any other way to get in contact with him? He's currently on T-Track, and I know the schedules are hectic. I haven't had much chance to speak to him cause of his watch shifts and cell not working, but I would hate to go up there and not be able to see him even if it is just for an hour or even less. Am I allowed to request him somehow? (during his free time of course, I'm not trying to do anything while he's working, and I'm almost certain the weekend I'm going he has off.) Or do you guys have any other suggestions? Thanks in advance!
