Hi Fl Orange! Happy to see you started a group for 16-10! Again, best wishes for you and your LO!
Hi FL Orange! So glad to see you here! My LO is in 15-10, this is a great support system for you! Welcome! I started our discussion group, and it was soo cool to see people starting to come and chat on it. You won't believe how many people are about to descend on your group. Have fun!
Welcome 16-10. Start mailing those letters now! Send photos, news clippings, sports scores, etc, as your LO's will be in a news blackout during their time at OCS. Just don't decorate the envelopes, or send glittery or musical cards.
And no matter how much your LO tells you that letters from home aren't neccessary, DON'T believe them. Their feelings change once they get into the pressure cooker that is OCS. Good Luck to all of you, and the people here are a wonderful source of information and support. It is so fun to watch as people start to find you here and in your group.
Thanks everyone for posting! I am hoping that this group will take off soon :). Hubby left this morning and I cried like a little baby...my 2 year old started crying when he pulled away in his car--- that made it worse...LOL. Hope everyone has a good weekend!
FL Orange,
I have great admiration for you moms with young children that hold down the fort while your hubby goes to OCS. As a mom, I knew my daughter would leave me to live her life, but it is different for you. You are also going to go from being able to communicate with each other thru the day to a total blackout. That seems to be the hardest part for most of the spouses/partners of those at OCS.
I know it is only for 3 months, but when you are only 2 yrs old, 3 months is 1/8 of your entire life!
Thank you...it's tough and I'm sure it will be tougher in the future as she grows up and daddy deploys more often. Communication is definitely something that I am worried about bc even when he was in Iraq, we talked everyday...I'm going stay in prayer-- that's all I can do!
Hey FL_Orange
My Son is in 13-10 and will be Candio for your LOs class believe the advice you will hear here, and ALWAYS remeber NO NEWS IS GOOD NEWS these first few weeks will seem like forever but we can tell you it does get better and when you get to where we are now believe me it is all worth it. I believe wives with little ones have the hardest job and you are to be commended for standing by your husband thru this. Ask any question here and you will get an answer. Do not be worried about it being a stupid question because believe me there is alot to learn. Godspeed to your LO and any questions feel free to pm me if you wish
Fl Orange, my son is 15-10, so we are just a few weeks ahead of you. This is a truly wonderful site, with wonderful people. GANavyDad, dmarie, Sue, 2 in the service, Cheryl, and many others have been lifesavers for us! It is true that after the first week, time does seem to pick up! Lean on these people for a shoulder to laugh and cry on, they are the best.
Welcome FL Orange! I got a little choked up reading of you and your daughter said good bye today. This is great you started this site and as GANavyDad said ask questions, many questions, this is such a good source of support. I have made some wonderful friends through this site all over the country and I hope that happens for you also. I have said this to many past classes, I admire the moms or dads with children that are saying goodbye to their LO, and wives and husbands. As much as I missed my son and my heart ached, I was able to come home at night and have my husband here to listen. That is what we are all here for. We will be praying for your LO and the rest of this class as they begin this journey.
Hello FL Orange! So glad you kicked in and started off the support chats for Class 16-10! My son is in Class 13-10 and as GANavyDad said, our sons will be the Candios for your husband's class. He'll actually be working directly with the indocs, so maybe they'll cross paths. I'm so impressed that your husband has done a tour of service in Iraq and is now in OCS. How brave you both are and what a wonderful and noble career he has chosen. Best of luck on the homefront and to your LO as he progresses through his tenure in Newport. Check in with previous classes for support and a heads up as to what may be coming. 10-10, 11-10, 12-10 and earlier have all been amazingly informative and supportive. We've been able to go right up to their graduations with them (12-10 was today...HooYah!). Take care and kiss that baby!
Thank you so much! How is ur son doing as a Candio?
Reading everyone's postings has me crying again...LOL-- thanks everyone for your support!
