Hi Everyone, My name is Jan. My daughter Molly is currently attending the OCS Class #10-22. Although we spent 24 years living an active duty military lifestyle, it was in the Air Force so I know very little about procedures of the Navy.

I am finding conflicting information regarding what we are able to include in care/candio boxes. Specifically whether non-perishable food can be included. It seems like things may change from class to class so I just don't know. I read the Candio Box information on Navy Dads, which was helpful in many ways.

Can anyone tell me approximately when they first heard from their candidate after they started the program? I know this is all about her and not about me, but I'm legit going through withdrawl, lol!

Thank you kind people! Congratulations for having a reason to be on this page and in these groups!

Hi Jan!
I’m Cathy. My son is in this class as well. I have a daughter who is an officer in the marines and feel the info I could find was so much more while she was in OCS. It was during covid so many things changed but we had a couple different Facebook pages that were run by volunteers and they had a wealth of info. There is a Facebook page for this class though. I joined the two previous class pages as well in hopes I’d get a heads up on what’s ahead.
I am waiting to decide what to include in the candio box until it gets a little closer. Hopefully after week 4 we will be able to speak to our kids and they will be able to guide us with what’s allowed and what’s not.
I completely understand the withdrawal feeling. My daughter left January 5 for Japan. Then my son left last week. Although neither have been living at home for awhile but it’s still very strange.
Glad to meet another mom here in tfe same class!
Cathy

Thank you so much for reaching out Cathy! I'll have to find the facebook page for this class! I did a search for it, but didn't find one yesterday. I figured if one didn't pop up in a day or two, I'd create one but I'm not super good at jumping into groups. That was wise of you to join previous class pages.

My daughter will be a Public Affairs Officer once commissioned.

Oh Cathy, my heart goes out to you. No matter how old they get, it is still strange to have them away from us. We are a military family and both of my kids did a majority of their formative years living in Europe for 11 years consecutively. When they came back to the states for college, I hated being so far away from them. We moved back to the US in 2019 so we could be closer them and see them for frequently so I get it!

Happy to meet you and thank you again for the reply and info!

It has been about 3 3/4 years since my son did OCS, but I remember that you do not get a phone call till the end of week 3 if they pass whatever they are doing that week (I can't remember what that first test is called now).    I remember they only get like 10 minutes on the phone and they have to sign up for a slot to call you. They are able to write to you if they have time. I remember being shocked that my son wrote to me that first week and we got a letter like the end of the first week or the beginning of the second week.  But they are busy from like 5 am to 10 pm at night, so the only time they have to write is after 10 pm and most of them want to sleep! Good luck to your daughter!

Hello, Jan;

My daughter graduated from OCS Jan 2020 and I am so grateful for this page for the support and information other moms shared with me at the time when I needed it most.  OCS is very fluid and regulations keeps changing so better to play it safe.. Candidates open CANDI-O boxes after Battle Stations and I remember my daughter telling me it was like Christmas morning :) I know gum is a big no-no during my daughter's time in OCS.. My daughter and her roommate loved the hydrating masks I sent her, her dad sent some Navy keychain and pins.  She asked for eyeliner and mascara (travel sizes) and lip balm.  Don't send stuff toys, I did send a small one , one of her favorite and it was considered contraband but she was allowed to keep it :) whew..some little notebooks, stationaries of her fave Japanese characters.. personal notes, cards from family and friends.. Hope this helps.. Maria

My son is in class09-22
