Also, please do not include your email address in your user name. Go to "Settings" above to set your Username. While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!

Join groups! Browse for groups for your PIR date, your sailor's occupational specialty, "A" school, assigned ship, homeport city, your own city or state, and a myriad of other interests. Jump in and introduce yourself! Start making friends that can last a lifetime.

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security
Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.
DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.
DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

In light of observed changes and impact of the Coronavirus Delta Variant and out of an abundance of caution for our recruits, Sailors, staff, and guests, Recruit Training Command is restricting Pass-in-Review (recruit graduation) to ONLY fully immunized guests (14-days post final COVID vaccination dose).

H-Class
Hi - new to the Navy and all the lingo. My son reported to OCS July 14, class 01-14, and promptly got "rolled" to H class because he didn't pass one segment of the physical test. So what is he doing now that he is out of class 01-14? Does H-class have separate drill/classes to help them with what they had an issue with? Assuming he will pass the test when he takes it with 02-14. Is there a limit to how many times they can roll?

He will stay in H class where they work with them and he will roll back into class 02-14. I do not know the answer to if there is a limit.

Like Dawn said, he will roll back into the next class 02-14 as long as the reason for not passing was not a medical one, or related to an injury. I don't think there is a limit on how many times they roll unless he is just really, really struggling and they decide he's just not cut out for OCS. I think you'd have to be bad to have that happen tho. I wouldn't worry about it too much this early in the game. Sometimes it works out for the better that they have another three weeks to get prepared. Is your son right out of college or does he have prior service time?

Thanks, Dawn and Anna. Don't like not being able to communicate with him, but I understand the reasons. I did see some photos of the class on check in day and think he was in one - it's so hard to tell - they all look alike!!
My son is (was) a civilian, mechanical engineer, was working for a defense contractor. Decided to go in the Navy, wanted to fly originally, but told he would be too old (28) when he finished OCS. He decided he wanted to work with the planes, so signed up for AMDO. I think he will do well. The extra time will help him with the physical assessment and memorization.

Homie mamma look for the face book page for the class your son should roll into and get on the Facebook page for OCS, called officer training command. They post pictures and updates. It will help your through it.

Hold is not necessarily a bad thing. If gives them time to work on the area that needs attention. My son rolled into the next class and then at the Candio level he became CO of H Class. Can't answer the question about how long they can hold but I do know there was a girl who started with him and finally rolled into a class when he was a Candio. We did gets calls from him while he was in H class but those stopped when he joined the next class. Send him lots of encouraging letters. Remind him it's all a mind game for a short time to achieve his dream. Good luck to him.

Welcome to the Navy :). I've heard they do exactly that, work on whatever they have issues with. I can tell you many candidates roll and they can roll many times. My son said there was a candidate in OCS for a very long time, but I can't remember exactly how long. I can tell you that sometimes candidates from H class excel once they get into a regular class. So don't be too concerned with the delay, just be in encouraging when you get the chance :) and best wishes to your son!

Thanks, Nancy. I got a letter from him today! He explained why he didn't pass one of the physical tests. He said that H-class isn't so bad, that they have time to learn all the gouge (?) and learn the routine from the "veterans" that have been there for long-term injuries. They do have PT every day, so he expects to pass the next time. Was so happy to hear from him.

Hi HokieMamma,
I am in the same position as a mom. Just found out my son injured his foot yesterday and he is now in H class. I heard from him when he was in the infirmary and was leaving to check in with H class. Will I hear from him soon? Does anyone have an address where I can send him letters of encouragement? Someone please let me know, I am worried and can't sleep much.

A few years ago there was a discussion thread titled "For those with LO in H" or something similar. ON the main page for OCS Graduate Moms Discussions, there is a "View All" link in the bottom right corner of the box that shows the active discussions. click that, and on page 4 or 5 you'll see the thread "For those with LO in H". It may be helpful to read that thread as it has information and some good advice about H class. Rolling into H is not the end of the world. When an officer is commissioned no one asks how long it took to get through OCS. We have said that rolling into H class was simply delay, not defeat. Good luck to your LO's and hang out here for support!

Thank you for this post. We just heard from my son who was rolled into H Class. It is only his 1st week. He is devastated. I will remember that this is "simply delay, not defeat".

When my son rolled one of his comments was that he would have more money in the bank when he graduated. When he was in H class he did get to call on weekends until he rolled into the next class. As far as an address to send letters just change the class number on the address you have to H Class.
