I AM LOOKING FOR OTHER MOTHERS WHO'S SON'S OR DAUGHTERS JUST STARTED OCS ON AUGUST 19, 2012

They have a face book page. US NAVY OCS CLASS 02-13 19 Aug
If you search for that you can ask to join and it has family and friends of the class on it. Let me know if you can't find it. It will be very helpful for you. My son was in 14-12

kdnau60,

My daughter is at OCS right now as well.  She is in 17-12C.  Dawn is right - go to Facebook and ask to join the group for 02-13.  Here is a link that should take you there:   http://www.facebook.com/groups/471319912897990/

You should also ask to join 01-13 and 17-12 so you can get a look into what is coming up next for your loved one.  And then search for the Officer Training Command Newport facebook page.  "Like" their page and you will get to see pictures of the different classes as they go through certain milestones.  You may be lucky and see a picture of your loved one.

Do you have a son or a daughter there?

My son is a recent grad.  If I can answer any specific questions that you cannot find on FB ask away...I will help you if I can!  Good luck to your child!  It does go quickly for them :-)

My son started OCS on August 19. He is in class 02-13.  I have been reading about the silver dollars that are given at first salutes.  Are we suppose to purchase them or will they have a chance to get them.

wandak,

Just an FYI for you - my daughter asked me to get the coins for her.  They do have computers but they cannot access the internet so it's not until candio phase that they would be able to look for what they want and order them.  And I went online and did a lot of searching and checking and learning but then found the best price by finding a local coin dealer.  I found them online, but then went there in person.  I was able to pick out the coins, buy them right then and there and take them home.  No shipping and handling!!

thanks for the info.  I think I will go to a local dealer here in town.  Are there any guidelines I need to keep in mind?  Such as a certain type or year?  I dont want to do something wrong.

There are many choices, year, style. Would be best to ask him what he wants as soon as you can talk to him. Hard to purchase without knowing.

Dawn is right.  Wait until you get to talk to your Son.  There are some traditions and he may have a particular coin he wants to give.  Then you can check with your dealer and know exactly what you want.  I did learn that all of these coins are based on the going price of silver.  They can fluctuate each day but only by like a dollar or two.  If they are charging you quite a bit more that the going price of silver, that is all their markup, so don't let them stick it to you!!!

Wandak. They will have a chance to order or they may want you to purchase. Ask when you are able to talk to him. They talk about it in their class so it is hard to say what he will want to do and what kind he may want
I would wait to get the coins...my sons class ordered them together as a class. I would hate for you to get "taken". Perhaps your LOs class will be doing the same.
