OPSEC - Navy Operations Security
Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.
DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.
DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

In light of observed changes and impact of the Coronavirus Delta Variant and out of an abundance of caution for our recruits, Sailors, staff, and guests, Recruit Training Command is restricting Pass-in-Review (recruit graduation) to ONLY fully immunized guests (14-days post final COVID vaccination dose).

OCS Graduation
Hi,
My son will be graduating in 2 weeks. We are heading down to Newport a few days before (arriving Wednesday). Can anyone tell me what I should bring for clothes? I will be attending the Hi Moms reception on Thursday and want to be dressed in the appropriate attire for that reception and also for any other on base events (I hear there is a drill performance, an early wake up with a summary of what life was like for our candidates - does this happen at all graduations?) I'm assuming the graduation ceremony would be business casual but am not sure. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!!

Congratulations on you LO! Our son graduated January 28, 2011, Class 05-11 in Aviation and actually has his first flight today - so our excitement continues. We were in Rhode Island during cold weather, snow, and ice so some things will be different I'm sure such as graduation being inside or outside. The Hi Moms reception is very nice event with a cash bar and a very nice array of heavy appetizers. I wore a nice dress/sweater with black sequined heels. You can't hardly go wrong as there was a wide variety for all events. For graduation I had planned wearing business casual but due to weather issues wore even more casual than I would have preferred. For the early morning event we awoke at 4:45am and observed the eating by the numbers - an awakening experience with new appreciation of their life during their time at OCS. We stayed at the Navy Lodge so we returned to our rooms to dress for graduation afterwards. I hope this helps. This is a lifetime experience!

Nice to meet you via Navy For Moms. Congratulations to all!! Our son is also in Aviation. How exciting that your son has had his first flight already!! Your email was very helpful. Was it difficult to get a reservation at the Navy Lodge? I called weeks back and they said they can only book 48 hours in advance which made me very nervous so I've booked offsite. I'm looking forward to all the events of graduation week. We are very proud and honored that our son has chosen this profession and look forward to this celebration. Thanks again for your reply. Our reservations at the Navy Lodge were made well in advance so there may have been a change of policy. The Navy Lodge was in the midst of remodeling when we were there so I'm not sure. If you can get a room there, it is very convenient especially for the early morning event. The drill is on Thursday afternoon but I can't recall the name of the performance but it was awesome! Our son picked us up from the Providence airport around noon and we immediately headed back to base for the drill. I can't even begin to tell you the pride I felt as we came down the escalator and I could see him sitting at Starbucks in uniform! I'm not sure if it is always the same but they were given Thursday to spend with family and on Thursday night he also stayed overnight with family. I hope this helps.

Your information is helpful. I'm looking forward to the drill performance as well. We have not received the details as to the exact time yet, but are planning on arriving Wednesday afternoon so we don't miss anything. Just reading the part of your email about seeing him as you came down the escalator in uniform, I can imagine how you must have felt. I'm looking forward to this day and know I will then truly understand the magnitude of what our men and women have accomplished by completing this training. Thanks again for your help!!

Hi Julie - My son is graduating on 7/15/11 as well ! There is a facebook page for OCS Class 13-11 with lots of info on it. From the info we are getting, the Thursday evening Hi Moms is dressy - black cocktail dress attire. The graduation is less formal - business attire, church attire - some girls are wearing sundresses to the graduation. There is supposed to be time on thursday afternoon that the families go to the base for the drill performance - 2:00 ish? I'm not exactly sure of the time. I am under the impression that is casual attire...not too sure about that. Hope this helps - see you in 2 weeks! Mary
