Same here I hae been trying to figure this out. I have never heard of a class having graduation on a Thursday. Has anyone ever heard of this before?
There is some discussion about this on the Facebook page for this class. The graduation is Friday, Oct 1st. The festivities start on Thursday with the Parade in Review which is usually around 2 pm. The Hi Mom's cocktail type party is Thursday evening. On Friday around 5 am is their final run, which family members can attend/watch/run if they want. Graduation is around 9 am that morning. Some family members arrive in Newport on Wed. of graduation week, since OC's sometime get to spend time with their families that evening. Most get to spend Thursday night with family members in their hotels, if their Hi Mom's party gets over in time.
thanks for the info. that helps. How do you join this facebook page? I tried, but was not able to. I'm new at this stuff.
There is a link on another discussion group under OCS Graduate Moms, entitled New Facebook page for Family/Friends of 01-11. Once you have joined Facebook, you can search for OCS class 01-11, you will have to request to join that group. It may take several hours to a day for your acceptance to show up. Just keep checking back & searching for that site. The Facebook pages for OCS 19-10 (the current class that is in command), OCS 20-10 (my LO one's, they are starting week 8 this Sunday), & OCS 21-10, (they have just gone through their first RLP inspection) are all good sites to read about what is ahead for your LO's class. You will have to request to join each of these groups in order to view the content & make comments, etc.
thanks so much for the info.
I was told by my LO that the graduation is most DEFINITELY on Thursday. And that they were told it was moved ahead 24 hours because October 1st is the beginning of the fiscal year in the Navy. So they are having graduation on THURSDAY, the 30th, and PIR and Hi Moms on Wednesday the 29th.
My son told me the same thing, but there still seems to be some question. I'll double check with him next time since time we speak. I just want to make sure hotel reservations are correct. Anyone have any info as to how many family members can come to graduation festivities and ceremony?
Only 2 actual paper invitations get sent out, but I believe as many people as you want can come. They only need to know names for the Hi Moms dinner if people are going to that as it's a pay/head sort of thing. The graduation is as many people as you can fit in a car sort of thing.
Thanks for the info. If We have family members coming in different cars, might that be a problem?
Thank you soo much! I was really stressing about this. No on could give a clear answer!
Thanks for the information. Have been trying to get info for graduation for the 21-10 class in late Sept. I have to arrange time off from work, flights, hotel reservations etc. What is the dress for the Hi Moms party and for graduation? Can we see them graduation morning even if we don't 'run' with them - to see them in the mess hall etc?
Just heard from Josh, he said all are doing well and they are spending a lot of time in the classroom. They did a ropes course today, and he said it was a nice change and kind of fun.
