Choose your Username. For the privacy and safety of you and/or your sailor, NO LAST NAMES ARE ALLOWED, even if your last name differs from that of your sailor (please make sure your URL address does not include your last name either). Also, please do not include your email address in your user name. Go to "Settings" above to set your Username. While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!

Join groups! Browse for groups for your PIR date, your sailor's occupational specialty, "A" school, assigned ship, homeport city, your own city or state, and a myriad of other interests. Jump in and introduce yourself! Start making friends that can last a lifetime.

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security
Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.
DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.
DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

**UPDATE 4/26/2022** Effective with the May 6, 2022 PIR 4 guests will be allowed. Still must be fully vaccinated to attend.
**UPDATE as of 11/10/2022 PIR vaccination is no longer required.
**UPDATE 7/29/2021** You now must be fully vaccinated in order to attend PIR:
In light of observed changes and impact of the Coronavirus Delta Variant and out of an abundance of caution for our recruits, Sailors, staff, and guests, Recruit Training Command is restricting Pass-in-Review (recruit graduation) to ONLY fully immunized guests (14-days post final COVID vaccination dose).

My son will start Officer Candidate School in February (2019) so I thought I would see if anyone else had a child starting then.

Hi elkinsd. Welcome!
My son went to OCS several years ago, and many things have changed since then, so I will have to defer to the Moms of more recent grads if you have specific questions. Read the most recent posts in this group and the discussions, and you may find some answers.
Also, if you do Facebook, you may want to look for a family group for your son's OCS class around the time he will report. The class FB groups are usually formed by a family member around the time that a new class starts. You would search FB for "Navy OCS Class XX-XX Families and Friends" or some similar wording, where XX-XX is his class number. These groups are helpful to link up with other families with loved ones in the same class.
Also search Facebook for "Officer Training Command Newport" or "OTC Newport." This is the official FB page of OCS and they post pictures of the current classes doing their training.

Congratulations on your son being selected for OCS. Mine son was commissioned in 2015. You will find mom's of his class on the FB page for the class as M's mom has already said. I spend a great deal of time looking for a glimpse of my LO in the pictures they post on the officer command training newport fb page. The first 4 wks seems to go the slowest for us mom as there is very little to no contact at that time. It is a happy day when they move pass the first big RLP and they then get access to emails. Any questins feel free to ask away.
