Hey guys!

My husband is currently in OCS. He got DQd out of flight school so now we are trying to figure out the next steps. He got DQ'd on the first Tuesday he was there, so I was just wondering if anyone had experience with re-designations so early in OCS. Will he have to go to Student Pool after to wait on a new designation? Or is it on a case by case basis?

Any help would be incredibly appreciated! He's still early on but if theres a potential for him being there an extra 9 weeks, I need to work out my housing situation.

My advice would be to get the information from him personally. If you are unable to hear from him yet by phone or e-mail, write a letter ASAP and let him get back to you as fast as he can. With your housing situation, I wouldn't use others "older" experience as a determining factor. So much changes from year to year, class to class. Sorry, I can't be more help.

My son was in OCS about 2 years ago and was npq'd from subnuke. He found out the night before graduation and then had to go to student pool until something was decided. He ended up redesignating to CEC but it took 3 months since he had to be cleared from nupoc 1st and then apply for the new designation. It turned out to be a real blessing since CEC is a really good community. You are much better off finding out early as that will allow him to see what designations are open, and then apply for the new one. Don't know how long it will take but you know the Navy!

Good luck and God bless!

DFwife:   My son was at OCS five years ago, and was medically DQ'd for SNA after a flight physical at about week 4 of OCS, I think.   He applied to re-designate to Intelligence, and was accepted and re-designated before the end of OCS.  But I'm sure it depends on what they are applying TO.  Some in my son's class did not have their new designation yet at graduation, and I assume they had to stay at Newport until their orders came through.   It's a case-by-case basis, I'm sure.  Good luck to your husband!

My son was commissioned on Friday. He was DQd from piloting for being 1.5cm too tall in the first week of OCS - his dream has been to fly. He went from pilot to NFO (Naval Flight Officer) as soon as he "measured out" so that may be an option for your husband. He rolled also but only for an extra 3 weeks. What makes you think he'll be there an extra 9?
