That's funny everyone! So many different stories....my son was fine staying with us and exploring Newport. He just wanted to be with his family. And I have to say...when we went out to dinner and he wore his uniform, he sure got lots of special attention! We even had someone pay for his dinner one night...nice to know out kids are appreciated.

Egbot...what designation is your LO'd one? My son is NFO...so he had about two weeks before he had to report to Pensacola. He had to come home with us and then pack his apartment and move. We stayed until Tuesday, since my other kids were on spring break. But I would recommend leaving on Sunday at the latest if they have to move and report somewhere else. T

Egbot, for 12-10: PIR was thursday morning, Hi Moms was Thursday evening, Friday morning was Graduation. After Graduation they go get their ID's made. Then depending what rate they are going for depends if they may need to check in there in Newport or they could just be done. In my husbands situation after he had his ID made he wanted a long NAP. Then we drove to Boston to celebrate!

Thank you so much, everyone! Now here's another question... I see that the PIR can be on Thursday and then there are events on Friday and the weekend? I'm so unfamiliar with this stuff. It seems then, that we need to make reservations for Wed through Sunday? Is this typical for all graduations from OCS?

August seems like it is a long ways off...but it will be here before you know it! Seriously...make your reservations NOW! Especially since it will be tourist season. Navy Lodge will fill up quickly. Watching your son graduate OCS is amazing...a dream realized!

Glenmom...Thursday if Pass In Review (PIR) which is held in the late morning, so you might want to arrive on Wednesday. That's what we did. We stayed at the Hampton Inn in Middletown. They also have a very flexible change/cancel policy and serve a decent breakfast. It is close to base. Only about a 5 minute drive to get on and then you can leave by the back gate, which is extremely close. I just checked their rates for the first part of August...$204/night and they have availability. Where ever you decide to stay, I would make your reservation now. Enjoy your time there....it is very special and worth every penny you will spend!

Wow thank you Cheryl S as my daughter in law will be flying in and we thought I had to wait until she got there with her military ID. So can she put a room in our name then and not hers. We are booking three rooms for all the family. My son is a E-6 and can't wait to say ensign, lol Cheryl is the best day to arrive in RI is it Thursday?

I have been reading my son's class website and they said the hotels are expensive during tourist season, so I think I would book now as you can always change the date if need be, but hopefully no roll over. There is a navy lodging but to get checked in you have to have someone with military ID. Also a Navy Gateway and their no is 401-841-7900. I don't know number for Navy Lodge. Hope that helps!!
