Hello. My fiancé is going into ocs aug 10. We are expecting our first and baby girl is due nov 8. We plan on getting married in the next 2 weeks. I really hope he makes it back for the delivery. What should I expect out of this experience? How often can he call? Can he only write? Anything he should take with him in particular?
What will happen after he graduates? I think he will go to pensacola. Thanks.

Hey there....my husband also did the OCS thing, and the best way to stay connected is through Facebook....you can join the OCS command page, and they usually post pictures, and then also there will be a group page for his class that you can join.....I have no idea what number they are on now, but his class should be numbered something like 15-14....anyway, Joanna Robins is the girl that is usually heading up the groups.  There is also a page on here, I think its OCS moms or something like that, you can search my groups and find which one it is and add it.

OCS is pretty much just another hoop they have to jump through to become an officer...I believe it was 3 months long, and for the most part its no phone calls...after a certain point they do get emails though, and that is really awesome....at first, its just snail mail so its kind of a pain...is your fiancé a prior or is this his first stint in the military?  If he's a prior, like mine was, they have a lot to bring with them as far as uniform and things like that, if he's new to the military, they have everything they need there for them.

After week 9 I believe they do get their cell phones back, which is awesome, and at the week 9 point you can send them a special box with all sorts of food and things for them too so that is really fun....and you can decorate the inside of the box and everything, I put pictures and all sorts of stuff in it!! The facebook page will tell you everything you need to know and when you need to know it too, so make sure and join that one!  It was my lifeline!! If you have any other questions though feel free to shoot me a message!! Good luck!!

He is totally new to the navy scene. He graduated from university of SC. how do you know when you can send them a box? His graduation date is supposed to be oct 31. When can he come back after that or do they usually go straight to somewhere else?

also how do i find the ocs command page?

And here is the class page for 17-14....I couldn't find any classes higher than this, however if you join this page on FB, Joanna is there and they can all point you in the right direction.

The box is called a "candio box", because they are called Candidate Officers after week 9...and that is when you can send them, at the week 9 point.  If you join the OCS class page on FB, they will all tell you exactly when to send the box in relation to the class.  This is really important, because you DO NOT want to send the box too early!!

When my husband graduated, I went out a week early to visit, and just stayed at the Navy Gateway on base in Newport.  Its a beautiful area, and after week 9 they get a lot more freedoms too, which is really nice.  I'm a West Coastie, so I went and saw Connecticut, Boston, and went sightseeing around Newport.  For my husband, I think he had a bit of time after graduation to get home, and then once at home some time before reporting (he was reporting to Coronado, and that's where we live so it was pretty easy).  Depending on where he goes next, it will depend on how much time he has.

You can't send them a box until week 9. No care packages whatsoever before that point. Only white envelopes

Two things can happen after graduation:

If he gets his orders before graduation: He'll either report on that Monday or about 10 days later- it will be stated on his orders, it depends what his ship schedule is (he won't know until he receives the orders though)

Or, he won't be his orders after graduation and he'll have to wait on base until he receives them. They will either be for directly after or 10 days again.

i dont think he will be going on a ship, but to aviation school.

my bf started OCS June 3rd, and his class is 16-14 so your fiancés class will be like 19-14 or 20-14 which you'll know before he loses all communication. they get one phone call saying that they are there and checked in (his parents got this call- you only get one) and then it will be snail mail for the first 3 weeks unless they roll (fail a test and get pushed to the next class) and they will call and let you know if that happens. at the end of the third week if they pass RLP they get email privileges and weekend phone privileges. right now we are in the start of week 4 so that is all I can tell you now, but I've had constant email with my LO since this weekend (not as many emails during the week but he can answer at least once a night). hope this helps!
