Hi All,

We just got our first letter from our daughter in bootcamp...she wrote about the

first week "medical" where they get shots.  She named one of the injections as

"Depo" ...someone please tell me that not the birthcontrol "depo provera" !!!!! I'm

having a panic attack !!! That was the first question that I asked her female recruitor

last year...if the Navy did forced birthcontrol.  She assured me they would NOT !!!

I am going to have to say I think this is Depo Provera.
I can not be 100% but when my daughter went through they set you up with the BC you already have so no change or ask the recruits (female) what they would like to do. My daughter chose the 2 yr implant since at some point she may be deployed and unable to get what she needs. This is not totally for BC measures. This is so the females all have somewhat regular menstrual cycles. Not too regular during boot since they work out and have to adjust .
I am sorry, I hope that helped. Again, I do not think this is forced birth control.
thank you Tobianne....didn't know
I'm trying to be level headed about this...
Nope not a problem, this is why we are all here. To help the moms. I hope things are going great for her. You hang in there, it seems so far from PIR and before you know it you will see her and have tears of joy in your eyes. Be proud momma be proud. These girls go where some men could and do not!!
Chelsea's Mom,
I found out after the fact that my daughter was given birth control while in bc also. She told me that they do that so the girls won't have pms symptoms, bad cramps, or other such female problems. Too many girls would not be able to perform what they need to do during the rush time frame of bc. I'm pretty sure they can just stop any birth control after bc but from what my daughter told me that goes on during A school you may just want her to stay on it. Oh and also, they gave all the females the hpv vaccination during bc.
thank you Anna...I hadn''t thought about this
thank you
thank you
it puts my mind at ease
My daughter was on birth control before she went in, and had been for many years to control her cycle. But on the other hand these girls are adults and it is for them to decide what they want to do. Birth control does not mean they are gonna go out and have sex willy-nilly. These kids have been brought up in a time very different from ours with STD's that can kill you now I would think that they know better. I know my daughter was a lot better educated at home and in school than I ever was.
yes...i agree.
My frustration with this is that we had this conversation BEFORE bootcamp with her female recruiter &
my daughter refused because she was comfortable just bringing tampons...so I dont like the idea that this
would be MANDATORY for all females...I'm just gonna hafta wait to hear from her & ask...
thank you, Kalena, for your support.
Vanessa
I know the girls are ale to use tampons, my daughter has now been fortunate to not have to deal with a period at all. She also was on BC before she left and had a mere 3 day period. Oh how I wish mine were 3 days ever.... so she is happy, she still gets crampy a bit not bad and she bloats some, not bad either. She is not gonna say I wish I had my period back that is for sure!! lol

She is aware that her having to still do pt and her job requires a lot of pt as well as climbing poles and such that she is happy not having to think about this.

I ask my girl if things were wild on her base, she said no not really mom. Its pretty cut and dry that you are TOLD not to mess with your brothers and sisters!! She said it may go on in some other places, but here we are pretty good about following the rules. Could also be that she is not looking for a "mate" right now and working on getting her school and such done, she said we have no time for crazy stuff, and when we hit Gulf Port, I think we will have less then!! lol

I hope she stays on that line of thinking. The base she is at is less than 20% females.

It is a personal choice though and that I understand. for me it is peace of mind since yes they are all adults and at some point anything "could" happen.
thank you for your kind words...I'm hoping to get a phone call soon...any idea when we'll get one? she left 10/5 & i got my first "real" letter from her last Wednesday...
Vanessa
it can take 3 weeks, some do not get to call, just do to the way the div. is.
You really just do not know until you hear from others saying we got calls, or you are the one posting about your call. Just keep and eye on your PIR group for calls coming and they usually call on the weekend unless they have been rewarded a week day call. Looks like soon for calls for you.
