Good Morning all! Getting ready to go have coffee with nicksmom...isn't it nice we've formed these relationships we can depend on? My son's girlfriend and another girlfriend of a sailor are also planning a trip together to see their sailors in Pensacola! They wouldn't have met without this site! Makes me feel better about a young lady traveling alone to somewhere she has never been!
Lala...I agree with michimom...I think you need a destination for a visa but not a passport. Also, the hospital I work at has an office specifically for vaccinations for travel to other countries...you might try one of your local hospitals or a public health department for that info. Also, if you look up the country on line, it will usually tell you what vaccinations are required to travel to that place.
Gosh, I thought I was the only one left who didn't have a passport!

Michimom, thanks so much for the info. I am so happy your son's "wound" is healing nicely. I know this waiting has been so hard on you and I think about you often. I wish we could all go to PIR with you to celebrate :).

Lala, I'm no expert on passports, but as far as I know you do not need to put a destination. I believe that's optional information, and I wouldn't worry about it at all. The shots would only be necessary for certain countries you visit--what I would call the less-traveled and more "exotic" ones (a co-worker needed shots for Belize). Happy future travels!

For all, an update on my son who was supposed to have PIR 7/23: still recovering in RCU this week, and healing well. As he put it in his last letter, they've been checking his wound daily and it's healing nicely. "Wound." Ha ha. We call it an incision, he calls it a wound! We're hoping to get a phone call any day now informing us that he's been assigned a new ship and division and will finish up his last two weeks!

Lynne that is so funny. The Blue Heron comeback the same time each day and looks for handouts and drinks from the pool. I guess he prefers chlorinated water lol.

I have a question for anyone who may know the answer. I want to get a passport very soon. It looks like my sailor may be going overseas and I want to be able to visit but more importantly I want to be able to go to her if she were to get sick or something and need me. I have never had a passport and someone told me to get one I would have to put a destination on it. What if I don't know yet where or when or even if I will be going out of the states? And do I have to get shots to get a passport? I am pretty sure one of our members is a travel agent but answers from anyone here will be greatly appreciated.

good morning my Queens! its been a crazy week getting all the school physicals done before school starting this Monday! yes, this is the last weekend of freedom for Florida (Brevard county) schools! YESS! lol.

my hands feel like they are about to fall off from drawing up the massive amounts of shots we gave out this past week for these kids who waited until the last moment to get their physicals... ugggh!

school supply shopping this weekend, some last summer celebrating at the zoo..maybe go to wet n wild or aquatica (water parks in Orlando)...and then my youngest son enters middle school on Monday! New school and he now rides a bus...i have been driving him to school all this time...now his school is further away so he is considered a "bus rider" lol...YESSS!! helps me out!

Went to the new school to map it out and find all his classes, lol....huge school for only two grades.

Lala, such postcard perfect photos of the sunsets! Those birds are crazy, huh! When I first moved here, those bird and some of the other wildlife down here really amazed me...my son used to run after the lizards and would bring home all the turtles he found, lol...believe me, we had a big turtle family in the back...we got the turtles trained to the sound of a dog food can being tapped with a spoon...as soon as we would go into the back yard and tap the dog food can, the turtles came out and one by one, they would all be around our feet waiting for the dog food! lol....yes, we feed the turtles dog food, HAHA, they love it!

Thanks, We had the truck towed to a transmission place but haven't heard anything yet. Should know something tomorrow. We have only had the truck about 8 months :(.
Ruthann- it seems in every family who has more than one kid there is always a neat one and to put it nicely a "not so neat one" lol. My daughter is deff the cleaner one of my 3 kids, the 2 boys-not so much, they have this problem with leaving things out. It drives me crazy. You have no idea how many "food Items" I have had to throw away over the years. When I came home they had "forgot" to put it away. My daughter wasn't that great at it either until she had a roommate in college who was an absolute slob. It turned her into a neat freak lol. They are not as bad as some. And I think I drive them crazy because I like things neat and tidy. I bet if you ask them what I say the most all of them would say "There is a place for everything and everything has it's place, Please put it there!" lol
