Good morning all! Getting ready to send out my 4th box to my son! He is still spoiled, isn't he! He says the t shirts they wear are pretty bad, so his girlfriend picked up some really nice ones at her work (Express Clothing) and so off they go today along with his Ipod clock radio and some pics of graduation. I am spending a small fortune for the US Postal Service! They might not even raise the price of stamps I am making them so much money!

ksmom, well, I wish them both well, I hope that that this situation works for them. Its hard to watch your kids make a move that most likely, they will grow to regret but sometimes, its the only way we can learn...some of us have to fall down and scrape those knees before we get it...sheesh! I just wish that was not the case!

Let's just hope that they know something that we don't (hmmm, not too convinced! lol) But let's at least hope!

I am sure you have already done this, but I thought I would put it out there, just in case you have not...
Have you tried to bargain with him and surrender to the fact that he is going to get married? Have you told him that it would just kill you, after raising him to not attend one of the biggest milestones of his life? ( I mean, pull the emotional mother's heart card! lol) Have you let him know that you could accept his wedding and marrigage from this point on, if he would allow you the time to help him with a nice WEDDING? Meaning the bride wears a dress and there is a reception and everything? (doesnt have to be big, but at least he will have a wedding instead of the court house, AND....it will give him time to get through school)
I think, if this were my situation, I would ask him to hold on, not because I thought he was not old enough, (that will move him faster towards a wedding, lol) but because I would really want to see my son as a groom and my daughter in law as a bride and weddings do take a bit of time to get together...if you make a big deal about the celebration, with all the stuff that goes with a wedding, it may help the girl to tell your son to hold on and wait for the party. She is the pivital person to influence right now, as she holds the cards, right?
Your son is going to want his mother to accept the idea of him getting married!
Maybe telling him that you will accept the marriage and will welcome the girl into the family as your new daughter if they will allow you to help them plan for a nice little wedding, one that you could BE there and one that the family could help celebrate with him...he may like that enough to consider holding off at least until he is in his first duty station

my boy bought a computer, got internet and a new phone charger. I am ever ever so grateful. The only thing he wants from home is electronic in nature!

incognito...let me-clarify my 12 yr old is starting school on the 9th, and he is the one I am getting ready, NOT the other one, lol....He can do that on his own!

Lala..the bird story is funny!! We see those herons all the time, but never saw them do that! lol

Incognito...yes, my son too will be starting school but he starts next monday! this week I have to register him and do all the school shopping and the new haircut...lol. Time to chop all that bleach blond hair and get him "serious" looking, lol He starts on the 9th.

Thanks Jane, let me tell you...Skype was something I will never forget! It was such a wonderful moment for me to see everyone and be a part of the moment, it was amazing! But I had some issues with it so I was a bit late "getting " there LOL.

Joella, you are right on....get through school...get to your duty station, THEN re-evaluate your relationship. Not easy to wait...but waiting is much of what military spouses do...so no time like the present to ...WAIT! HA!
(and while waiting, the soon to be spouses, or girlfriends should find what makes them tick, and go after that and more!) Let me just beat that dead horse a bit more, LOL

KS mom- missed you Saturday. We had a very nice time. Met some great Moms.A couple of new Moms like us and a bunch that already have sailors on ships. Hearing their stories and all the places that their sailors have been able to do and see. A fun group. They are planning the next one in Oct. A cookout.Either on Lake Allatoona or a park. They don't have a date yet.Still looking for a place. They also talked about Navy Week in Oct. Alot going on that week.Fun things the kids will want to see to include the Blue Angels.

Hi Mamabeth-Your SR is AECF. That is great. My Chris is really excited about it. It was a whole week before Chris moved over to the A school side. There seems to be a hold once they are over there.Once he did get over there he Facebooks me and then called. So today I will be able to put his phone and a few civvies in the mail. Do not know how long he will be on hold.So when you take his phone to PIR big possibility you will have to bring it back and mail it later. To sit in the balcony or not sit in the balcony...there is + & - for both. Alot I think will depend on your Mom and if she is able to go up and down bleacher steps and the stairs to get to the balcony.Emma & Saylur(Bolly) sat at the very top and we sat on the 3rd row in the balcony. I got some close up shots of Chris but the railing was in most of them but you can see more because you are looking down. I was the last to get to my son. Had to look around for a while and then finally stood in the bleachers to let him find me. For the weekend I would just go with the flow. If you have time for Chicago(weather permit....It rained on us big time) that is great if not a nice dinner somewhere, walk the mall, take in a movie that is great to. It is kind of what ever they want to do and have time for. Chris wanted a looonnnggg hot shower, contact a few friends on FB,clear off a bunch of emails. Then a steak dinner. One day we did do the mall and we saw the movie Inceptions.Take them some clothes to hang out in. They will be in their Whites. As long as they do not leave the room they can be in shorts or Pj bottoms or what ever. Just don't want to get those Whites dirty. If they want to leave the room must be Navy Attire. If the go swimming in the hotel pool must be in Navy swimsuit.Chris got Liberty immediately. We left the Navy base at about 11:00ish.Had to have him back at 6:30-6:45. You can drop them off at the chapel. They had a pack to try and be back 1 hour before liberty was over. If anyone was late the RDCs would take an hour off per person late of the next days liberty.Sat. morning was kind of cool.Meet at the chapel before 8:00. They will come marching up singing cadence for the start of their liberty that day. They will probably bring you their pictures at that time.Again they will have to be back 1 hour before the end of there liberty. Someone came in 2 hours late and they got a hour taken off of when to be back. They didn't talk to that person at all.So anyway that is why I said go with the flow. The RDCs have drilled in to there heads all the things they shouldn't do and the things they expect from them. Play it by ear and have a fantastic time just being together. You will marvel at the person they have become in these 8 weeks. We didn't get into Chicago to see the things we would of liked but we are planning a couple of trips back up. They will be in the area for a while.Have a blast and go print your parking pass(2 or 3 copies)

Just thought I would share a funny story with you all. Yesterday evening, the guys were fishing from the dock at the house we are staying at. A big Blue Heron flew up and stood there watching. They threw it some little fish they were using for bait. Then Phil held out a fish with a pair of vice grips to feed it and he about fell in the water when it grabbed that fish. I thought it was going to take his arm off lol. So they stopped messing with this giant bird and got back to fishing, next thing we knew was that bird was over at the bait bucket having dinner like he had just been invited to a family reunion. Phil and Cory turned around and and chased that bird down the dock with 3 or 4 fish in its beak. It was so funny, wish I had it on video. :)

Hey, ladies.. can you all go to the discussion above and tell us where your sailor is currently based. LMBO I have noticed that some of our sailors are now friends on FB as several of us have done. ; )

I am going to be so busy over the next couple of weeks getting my 11 year old and myself ready for back to school. We start back on August 23rd. I have meetings mid week the week before though and a full work day on that Friday. I have never thought this before about summer but its been a looong summer. (BC made it feel that way) lol
