Yes, in A School they are able to have cell phones and laptops so communication is enhanced.  Although, I actually got a lot of letters from from son during boot camp, but heard less once he had his phone etc!

Hi,

My SR is just finishing boot camp and then will be going to school in for OS in Great Lakes.  Can someone tell me if he can have his cell phone and have more communication with us?  Thanks.

tks4 - my heart breaks for you - I cannot even imagine what you have been through.  The good thing about gymnast is they have a high tolerance for pain and are mentally strong.  I bet you just want her home with you.  I pray that the docs get her back to 100% - I will light a candle for her and pray for her daily

Catcat- Her trigeminal nerve was cut. This is the nerve that leads to the brain. They can go in through her brain and block that nerve. She has no feeling in the front of her mouth due to this or just all the numbing they kept doing. It is heart breaking to watch food fall back out of her mouth. This is just one thing that has gone wrong of many because of the nerve being cut.  It took awhile (and a visit from Bethesda doctors)before they realized what they had done. She did complain and tried to keep going. Eventualy she couldn't eat and lost alot of weight. She is not very big but did have the muscles from being an athlete They tried putting her on meds to relax the nerve but it relaxed all her nerves. It is a very long story of her journey to just get this far. Jamie they sent me there to be with her for her first surgery. Then as soon as her surgeon gave the ok to travel they sent her home to recover. Her surgeon believed she would heal better at home. She was given leave and a date to report back. They thought the surgery would do the trick. They weren't listening to her surgeon, who believed it would take a year or 2. She had to go through Med board. She had to see a couple of neurologist and pain management specialist. The pain specialist could not help her. Many Doctors all with their own opinions. Med board is done and now it goes to the next phase. She was given many privileges due to her circumstance. For example special diet, longer time to eat, and a few others. For awhile she couldn't be left alone. She has made some improvements but will do a lot better at home. Her story is very sad but it won't stop her . She is strong and will only get stronger.

tks4,How did having her wisdom teeth pulled lead to the front of her mouth injury and brain surgery? Sorry to ask if you have already posted this. I am so sorry that this happened to her, and you. I hope she will be sent home soon and can have the comfort of home and family. Maybe that will help in her recovery. I'll send an angel to watch over her.

tsk4 - why cant they just send her home.  Why is it taking so long?  Poor thing.  I think the physical part of BC will be easy for my daughter (she was JO champ and trained 20+ hours a week for gym + full time school).. I worried about her breaking down mentally.  We will keep your daughter in our prayers and that she fully recovers quickly and pray for no brain surgery.  I can't imagine what you are going through.  How heartbreaking and scary.

Jamie- My daughter went to Novaks gymnastics center.  She was trained very well which made bootcamp seem easy to her. Leese/K's Mom- Thanks. She is in constant pain but seemed to push through it when she was home visiting. She did have her limitations. For example; she use to run 6 miles but a short walk exhausted her. Not having anthing to do there just keeps her focused on how much pain she is in. I was reassured by the Dental Liason that mentally she is strong. That was my biggest concern because I read how alot of people commit suicide because they can't take that type of pain.

tks4: That is just so sad I hope she has a full and speedy recovery Hug I just don't understand how pulling wisdom teeth could go so tragically wrong! it just breaks my heart that she has to go through all this just from chasing her dream. I wish nothing but the best for you all.
