I live north of Pittsburgh in Cranberry. But my son's are now Vets, so I don't know if I count.

Lyn

Hi Lyn,

I live in Wexford, we are neighbors. And yes, you count. What is your experience with your children in the Navy?

Jill

Yes, I'm a Pittsburgh Mom. I live in Penn Hills.

Once we get through the holidays, we should all get together and share stories. Interested?

Jill

Absolutely. My son graduated Penn State last May. He was also in the NROTC program. He did get accepted for flying and is in Corpus Christi at this time.

That is exciting. How did he spend his summers?

First summer, he did a week flying, a week with the marine, a week on a ship and a week on a sub. Second summer, he did a month on a destroyer and the 3rd summer he spent a month at the airfield in San Diego.  What wonderful opportunities each summer.  This is how he definitely decided that he wanted to fly.  Does he know what he'll be doing this summer or is it too early?

According to my son, he will not find out in February and then the timing will be unknown until right before he leaves. Again, I am the mom and I am in the dark. One concern is we have our first wedding this coming summer. Our oldest daughter is getting married and they scheduled it late August in hopes that our son will be able to attend. All up in the air ----

"All up in the air"  No pun intended, right? LOL ;)

I live in kittanning. My son has been in for 6 yrs and just reenlisted in July. He is home now til jan 13. Then off to Australia he goes.
Is your son new to the navy or has he been in for awhile?

Marcy

My son is in the NROTC program at Penn State. He is junior, just got the two year scholarship. (Whew!) He is hoping to fly, but will not know until he is commissioned. He is going on his first summer tour this coming summer.

Jill

HI Jake's Mom......

I'm about an hour and 1/2 from The Burgh....but we go there a lot!!! ♥ the "BIG CITY" :D
I am planning something ABSOLUTELY CRAZY this year for my "little guy" for his birthday!
I have been promising him a trip to NYC forever.....he wants so bad to see the city, but my hubbie has NO INTEREST in going there!
We also PROMISED him a FAMILY vacation this year (as it's been over 8yrs since we were ALL together for a vacation, due to my sailor's deployments and family weddings, etc!
Anyway.....I started "surfing" for a NYC package, and came across a company that will let me "build my own" package.  So I started with a YANKEE game - (since he's a BIG Yankee fan).  Pulled up their schedule for 2014 games around his birthday in May.  LOW & BEHOLD...I got a DOUBLE SURPRISE!  NOT ONLY are they HOME the weekend of his birthday, but they are playing the PIRATES!! WHOA!!! (His other favorite team, who they only play once ever 4-5 yrs)!

So I am going to build around the game and a few of the things he wants to see in NY!!!

My only problem at this point is:  I KNOW NOTHING about NYC, so I don't know where to stay -or- STAY AWAY FROM!?!

Anyone able to help?????

Thanks gals! Hope all is well with you!

Jeano
