My son will be in the PIR class of June 28 and is also an AIRR. Can any one tell me about the "ship/dorms "or the living accommodations, and what they can bring as personal "stuff".  Even what to expect about life after boot camp would be helpful.

   Thank you in advance.

Start out small, dont bring to much. They can only wear civilian clothes in their room when they first arrive. Everything starts out strict. Laptops, tablets, cell phones are all ok.After a while my son bought a TV and playstation for his room, and once he is allowed to leave base they seem to spend alot of time at the mall. He bought clothes, shoes exc They can also find what they need at the NEX. Hope that helps

My son just graduate June 21, 2013 and the ceremony was excellent. Thank you for this information about A school. I know he looks so grown up but as a mother I still worry. If anyone has anymore info regarding A school in Pensacola Florida please share it. Thank you everyone and God Bless all our Sailors.
Hi Bluewater!
My son will be graduating in almost 2 weeks and going to "a" school in Pensacola! Can u share with me about what happened after PIR for your son! I keep hearing where they may have very little time with family, and will be wisked away to the airport, where they sometimes sit there for up to 12 hrs waiting on flights! Makes me sad that we make the trip all the way there only to spend a few hours with him! Thx, tracy
Hi Peter's mom. Let me just say graduating was wonderful to see how far your son has come in the weeks he's been away. He will stand tall and look like a man loved it.

1. My husband and I got to Great Lakes a day before to find out where I was going to make sure I was in the front roll to see my son come walking in. Every time I think about it tears come to my eyes how awesome it was so get there early it was a line and a lot of people.
2. When they call Liberty at the end of graduating people ran out to there family member and give them the biggest hug ever
And then they are on liberty a couple of hours depending on where there A school was. My son A school was in Pensacola Florida
3. After lunch we had a to take him back to the base because he was leaving which 12 hours sounds about right at the airport but we did get a chance to go to the airport and sit with him because my flight left the next day so I was very happy about that. (He's my only son)
Seeing your son in that white uniform will be a site you will never forget take lots of pictures and hug him tightly

P.S. He said A school was better than bootcamp so that put my mind at ease a little bit more....So hold on it's going to be a wonderful experience

One more thing we stayed at the Navy Lodge Great Lakes nice place and good rates
Let me know it I can help from one Navy Mom to another

Take care :)

My son did ask me to bring his phone and some other things where ok after graduation
