Welcome JillyBean, congrats on your husband's orders and your upcoming move!  There is a lot of info here in the Discussions, so take a look through them.

Members in this group are a great resource, but sometimes it's quiet here, and not all members "follow" the group and get an email when there's a new question.  Best bet to get input from experienced PCS'ers is to go to the link above the members'  photos and click on 'Send message to group,' copy and paste your question into the message box and send it out!   Good for you to get a head start on your move :)

Hi everyone!

My husband got orders for C-school at Fort Sam, so I will be joining him there in a few months. I'm super excited, but a little confused at how the PCS process works when they are just moving me, since he's already at Fort Sam? Like, will we get reimbursed for mileage/hotels when driving our car from CA to TX?

Any help or insight would be appreciated! Thank you :)

And this...HEAT: Housing Early Application Tool, from Navy Housing. HEAT was developed to assist service members (SVMs) and their families in applying for housing Navywide.  It allows SVMs and their families to get the housing application process started online before or after they receive their Permanent Change of Station (PCS) orders.  HEAT is available to any SVM at all Navy installations.

Hey, have you heard of the Navy Housing Service Center's Rental Partnership Program?  Says they can negotiate rent, deposits, more.

She could put the furniture in a self storage unit and give someone in FL a limited power of attorney to oversee the packout of household goods and sign for the inventory.  Must be someone she trusts completely , of course.  The Navy hired movers will pack out a storage unit just as easily as an apartment.   He can talk to the personal property office about this option.
