OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

In light of observed changes and impact of the Coronavirus Delta Variant and out of an abundance of caution for our recruits, Sailors, staff, and guests, Recruit Training Command is restricting Pass-in-Review (recruit graduation) to ONLY fully immunized guests (14-days post final COVID vaccination dose).

My husband and I just moved ourselves from FL to SD also. We were not married until after he had received his orders to SD so the Navy would not move me. We ended up renting a truck and moving ourselves. Penske had great prices and a military discount. Unfortunately there is no cheap way to do this although the Navy should reimburse your grandson. The best thing for her to do would be to call the housing office and inquire about a DITY move. I am not sure how the reimbursement process works since we didn't get reimbursed.

He picks orders in August, and we don't want to spend another 2 years apart until his time in the Navy is over.

Comment by Sweet*Southern*Lady on May 15, 2012 at 9:49pm: Well, it happens. But its basically expected that you'll get unaccompanied overseas tours if your in the Air Force or the Marines. So I guess I always view it as its an option.

Some places in Europe are easier to live in as a none sponsored wife. Hopefully something will be worked out. There is so much we can't do until written orders are given.

Much of our lives we have very little choice its more about how we respond to the information that we receive that makes our easier. Worrying about things you have no control over is just gonna cause anxiety, stress, and lots of extra emotion. Just realizing that the Navy has a mind of its own. So often we get our hopes so set into our temporary plans and sometimes those temporary plans sound so much better than our current orders we just a can't help it.

Realize there is so much in a move/orders you have no control over. I hope you get the news you want to hear. But its probably less common for someone to have to stay an entire year longer in a foreign country.

I think I'm not understanding what exactly you want to know. Sea duty does not mean that its overseas. Its based on the deployment schedule like they will spend 6 months out to sea and 6 month at home, or a year long deployment for example. But Sea Duty can be Florida or Cali or OCONUS where ever they are stationed.

Most of our friends who have been to Bahrain it was for a set period of time which they knew ahead of time (1 year, two years, ect). Yes he could get extended, but that could happen at anytime (kinda welcome to the Navy).

You shouldn't count the car toward it, but when you weight everything then it will be counted.

Comment by MandaRae88 on May 14, 2012 at 6:47pm: Hey :) New to the group & I have a few questions. My husband and I are moving to NY from SC and are trying out our first DITY move. He already turned in the paperwork and estimated the weight of our things. He estimated 4,000 pounds. They told him to include the weight of his car (which we will be towing) but I've heard that you aren't supposed to count that in the weight. When we did a Navy move (the first time around), we ended up with about $2,000 in our account when it was all said and done. Our moving truck is going to cost about $600 and then we'll have gas for the truck and my civic. Does anyone know how much money they give you upfront(DLA)? Do you get more money once you turn in your receipts? I'm just not seeing how this could pay out more than a Navy move. It's not sounding like it will. Also, we've talked to single sailors who say they are getting $2000 dislocation allowances. What's up with that? Do we get that too? Sorry for the long comment... eek.
