Hey abuon and Jessicay, we live here in SD and have since May....LOVE IT!!!  We live out in Silver Strand housing, its amazing, love being in Coronado....I work in La Jolla, so its a bit of a drive everyday but definitely worth it!  If you guys have any questions, feel free to message me!!  Good luck with the moves!

Congratulations!! We are getting married Dec. 22 and moving over stand down so luckily I won't be driving alone either! Well I'll definitely have to let you know when I get out there, I would love to meet you so we both know someone else out there!

Oh that is interesting! Next month I will have my BA in psychology! Yeah not sure what I want to do yet I was thinking grad school for the longest time but have changed my mind in the last year that I want to not go in a typical psych direction so maybe more HR? But yeah definitley want to use my degree for something when I start looking when I get there. And he will be able to drive with me.  He comes in on a redeye the day of my graduation (a Saturday) and we leave that next day because he has to be back to work by Wednesday so we are going to do it pretty quickly plus the dogs will be in the car so I don't want to take too long for them anyway (just little dachshunds thank goodness).  I hope you don't have to make that drive by yourself either.

What I would really like to find is a job planning events, that's what my degree is in and I would love to actually be able to use it!! Right now I work in hotel sales... I have restaurant experience... so anything in hospitality I guess, I certainly am not picky! Are you driving yourself out there or is he able to go with you?

Yeah that is understandable about not wanting to stay in a hotel.  We thought about off base housing but didn't want an apartment and just didn't feel comfortable picking an area.  Sorry I am no help there! Good luck though I am sure when you visit that will be much easier than looking on the internet.  What kind of job are you looking for?  I haven't even gotten that far between all of my school work with finishing up my degree and organizing our move and shipping his car (he has been on several underways since he got there so he couldn't help, plus he was living on his ship).  Wow Florida is going to be a long drive too!  I go to school 10 minutes from the beach here in NC so we are doing a literal coast to coast move just like you.

Comment by abuon18 on November 17, 2011 at 4:54pm

Well we are looking for off base housing... We are not married yet so can't apply and I don't want to have to live in a hotel for an undetermined amount of time! I am going out there Dec 9 for a week and plan on securing our apartment and hopefully a job as well. But I've never been there either (I'm from FL)!

Yeah we got military housing, last week actually ha.  We were on a wait list for 2 months, but we have two dogs and only ONE place applied to us but it worked out and everything.  I haven't seen it yet because I live in NC (actually visiting for the first time next week for my thanksgiving break yay!) But it is Orleck Heights in the Murphy Canyon area.  He said it is nice and seems close to everything we need and easy to get to work for him.  So areas wise I have no clue other than where we now have a house.  It does take all of our BAH but we thought it would be worth it being from NC and not knowing the area, plus we wanted a yard for our dogs. There is a hot sheet that has immediate housing I do know that.  Having no pets is the easiest way to go it seems.

SNMOUSE....THANK YOU SOOO MUCH! you're my hero :')  lol

Comment by abuon18 on November 17, 2011 at 4:40pm

Hey Jessicay! No I don't, which is why I wanted to talk to someone else! Get some advice on areas to look in and avoid! Are you and your husband going to try to get military housing?

Comment by Jessicay24 on November 17, 2011 at 4:37pm

Hey aboun18 I am moving there next month too!  My husband has been there a couple months already and I graduate from college in December and leave the day after that! Do you know where you are going to live yet?
