We live in military housing here in Coronado, its not "on base" but here in SD area there are about 48 or so communities that are owned by Lincoln Military Housing that you can choose from....provided you qualify and then you can get on the wait list or just take ones that are available depending on your needs....its been awesome for us, we LOVE it here, got a great place and moved in a month after we got here.  While we were waiting we stayed at the Navy Lodge, its pretty cheap, $65 a night here, and has all the amenities.

I live in base housing in norfolk. Love it. We called and 3 weeks later got a house. .

McKnights Wife... I had to drive my own car while we expensed towing his car behind the tow truck during the dity move.

My husband is still in A school...has just a few days left, then we will move TOGETHER into the base housing.  The housing office told me that it would take 5-6 weeks but that it might go faster or slower.  I've been living with my parents while he's been at bootcamp and A school.  He's gonna be taking some leave in the next couple weeks, and we'll be good to go.  As far as getting on a housing list....start searching online what the base housing is, talk to people at your local base, and do the leg work YOURSELF!  It's really is the ONLY way to get stuff done!  I had to get paperwork from deers, get his orders off bupers, and make alot of phone calls.  I've relied ALOT of the Lord through this whole process, and He's been taking care of us as He always does!!

How long did they tell you? And where did you live in the mean time?

NO experience whatsover here.  BUT I know we got on the list for base housing and two weeks later we got a call saying there was a 3 bedroom 2.5 bath townhouse for us in one of the newer neighborhoods!  Much fast than I thought, and to be in a newer one so fast was even more amazing.  I of course haven't seen it yet, we'll be moving in a couple weeks.  Base housing just might not take as long as you think.  Good luck!!

Help Please!!  It is my understanding that the Navy will not pay to have my car moved...my options are to either drive it to Great Lakes from L.A. (uuuugh!) or pay out of pocket for it to be moved.....Does anyone have any recommendations as far as car movers go?....Thanks!

lol okay i assumed that but wanted to make sure! :D thank you! im glad im saving up!

Short answer: No, they will not.

Long answer:  You must marry before his orders are issued for the Navy to pay for your travel as a dependent spouse and for the shipment of your household goods. That's why there are so many discussions about marrying during A school on this board.

hey there everyone! I have a question i am hoping someone will know a for sure answer too! My bf and I are planning on getting married next year. After that I will move to his duty station, Great lakes, IL to live with him. my question is will the Navy still pay for me to move even though he already has orders and will be at his permanent duty station after we get married?
