Then follow what the class said... but have all receipts on hand just in case.

Okay, Now I am confused. All you ladies are talking about reimbursements and turning in receipts etc. My husband and I just took a class and are moving in a week or two and were told we didnt need to turn anything in but the weigh tickets, that they dont do reimbursements bcuz its covered in the 95% of a gov move, and milage counted, and your per diam. In the class we were told to hold on to receipts for our records only???

You can also get the dla, milage, and per diam up front all u have to do is request it.

By doing it early I would only be worried about it costing more money than they are giving you - when you set the move up  it will tell you how much you are going to get. Also I would be worried about getting there and not having a place to go. They might push back when he is allowed to leave (my BIL is at goose creek and they ended up pushing all the arrivals back a week before they could go home) or when he will have a house etc. Things can change. I wouldnt leave or have my stuff picked up until he was given the okay.

Bandito's - Goosecreek is diff than most bcuz its all nukes. they have classes starting every two weeks. Theyll actually walk him thru everything, allow him to come home and get you and move you. You dont get "reimbursed" and you dont have to turn in reciepts. For a dity move (now a PPM) the government pays you 95% of whatever it would cost them to move you - this includes milage. They will give him 60% of the money upfront if he ask for it, and the other 40% when he turns in the weight tickets.

You also get DLA, milage for driving your vehicle, and per diem. Again you dont have to turn in gas reciepts because they dont reimburse you. The sailors per diem is like 170, then like 80 (close estimations I dont remember the exact amount) for the wife, then like 60 for any kids. This is meant to cover food and any hotel stays. milage is like .21 cents per mile i believe. All this is thru a different department than moving your stuff.

The only thing you have to turn reciepts in for our if you stay in a hotel when you arrive. You get ten days TLE and they will reimburse you for staying in a hotel at your new location while you look for a place to stay. but on goose creek you go straight into base housing.

they are really good about getting everything together and walking the student thru this process there.

umm the paperwork we submitted before the move was only to get the moving allowance i think its based on how far you have to drive. We did a move from Philly to Norfolk. We had to weight the truck before its full and after. After we finished the entire move we submitted paperwork with all the gas reciepts and weigh tickets and the expenses of the truck i think. Dity move is stressfull and a lot confusing if you dont get the right procedures. Like i said my husband went to a class maybe your Sr could see about the Dity move class before he starts the move. It only takes aout an hour

SR is in Boot Camp now and is going to Goose Creek for A school.  We have heard that he will go there and within days pick out housing and by Wednesday after arriving be sent home for his DITY move.  DIL is planning to use Help U Move and have them at their apartment Tuesday.  So that she can be packed and on the road as soon as he arrives.  Is she jeapordizing reimbursement if she doesn't wait for his paperwork?  Tuesday is streetcleaning day and the only time we think we can get parking for the truck.

My husband also had to take a class on how to Dity move. It was like an hour , they taught him all the logistics and paperwork side of thinks. We moved about 3 weeks ago and just subbmitted our packet for reinbursment a couple of days ago.

Thank you so much!!  I've been going through those links for the past couple hours.  Once we get my husbands orders in hand I can start the process, we're also working on finally getting a poa, I know we should have done that long ago.  One other question though, alot of places on those links it says to contact your local tmo or jppso.  I'm not sure who to contact.  My husband is at A school, would it be someone by him?  Or by me (the location the move will be made from).  Thank you so much, I really do value the information you provide!!!
