My computer isn't letting me onto the Navy's Smart Move pages, but that's where you need to start.
You do get a set amount for meals and lodging, and for gas (by mile). He can get an advance if he knows to submit a timely request. If you are near a base, you can go to a class on moving.
You want to start talking to the Personal Property Office/PSD at your sailor's base ASAP. Or have him begin the process. A DITY doesn't simply mean you save receipts and get reimbursed, there is paperwork and procedures to set up ahead of time. Googling, I found a number of commercial sites which assist with DITY moves, even explaining tax breaks and so on.
If the Navy moves you, they will briefly store your goods. I seem to recall three months for temp storage, but don't quote me.
If your goods are packed, and you are moved by professionals, you won't have to have everything repacked, but they will likely open the boxes to be sure what is in there is what is on the inventory (and in what condition), and that all the boxes are moving grade, and that there are no prohibited items. Do NOT prepack if you can avoid it.
yes i think we got about 2000 but and i think another 1000 appeared to but we didnt touch it and still havnt cause even his cheif didnt know where that came from lol. we were able to cover most of the move with it. we rented a truck and trailer to tow my husbands car and i drove my own down. Gas was a killer for the truck.
I tell you if i didnt have my husband with me there was no way i could do that move by myself. Id have to recruit my dad and the rest of the family lol. We didnt even have living room furniture or kitchen table but i dunno how id handle unloading beds and frames, washer and dryers, dressers etc by myself!
To be honest i wouldnt do a dity move again unless we had to , we had to this time because my husband had things we needed at his house which is four ours away from were my house was with all my things.
I hear you about the parents, i moved back in with him while he went to more training after A school. I couldnt wait to leave!! Good luck on the move
thanks....the main part I'm concerned with is if something happens where I'm stuck trying to unload my stuff myself with the two kids! Once it's in the house, I'll be fine. I've been living with my parents for TWO years I am one anxious chicky when it comes to setting up our home again!!!! I bet I won't sleep the first two nights and will be running on pure adrenaline! It's almost a shame our stuff is already packed up, I'm dying to pack something!!! Kac46047- did you get any money upfront for your move...the dislocation allowance?
