We're thinking the commitments we have keeping us here will work in our benefit because of that. If there is a long wait, we can get a lot of it down without having to find temp housing.
I see for where we're going there are a lot of housing communities. Do you get put on a general housing wait list or do you put in for the community you would like to live in? I know he's going to get these answers soon enough when he gets there, I would just like to be a little prepared for what we should expect.

We have a lot of time to wait, we won't be moving until the beginning of Feb, he grads A school the middle of Oct.

I just googled and said to visit your local Traffic Management Office (TMO) or Joint Personal Property Shipping Office (JPPSO) is this correct?

So i just got mil housing and its for Sept 8th. I know its prob to late for the military to move us so we are going to DITY move. It just so happeneds to work out when my husband has leave so that wonderfull. My question is who do we let know that we want to move DITY?

Thanks TN, that doesnt sound to hard, called the office today and looks like the movers are all booked so we will be doing a DITY move.

Helped my DIL with a DITY move last year from Tennessee to SC.  She stayed with us while our son was in BC and we stored all of their stuff in my mom's basement.  Of course, neither of them had much to begin with (he threw most of his college stuff in the dumpster before he came home).  We had to go out and buy living romm, kitchen and bedroom furniture 1 week before it was being picked up.

 

We hired United (super super people) and they worked with us on pick up and delivery.  The Nashville office even went out of their way to get a truck out of Knoxville who was making a delivery in Nashville then heading to Greenville SC.  Since they had so little, they were able to get it on the truck and take it to GC.  son and SIL arrived on a Saturday evening and their furniture arrived on Tuesday morning.  They actually made a little $ on it. 

 

Chose to do DITY move because we had been told that there would be a 3-5 week wait on a military move.  They carried essentials in the car, clothes, electronics, dog, and a queen sized air mattress and some bedding.  When the furniture arrived, we already had all the boxes marked for each room and the driver and helper unloaded everything and put it in the room it belonged in.  She just had to put things away.

Anyone experience a DITY move? We are trying to figure out if its better for us to just do that then a regular military move. We basically dont have much except a bed, washer and dryer and big screen tv. Everything else is little items. We are also looking into this because our stuff is split between half at my house and half at his parents house 4 hours away. Im thinking we can get a truck and hit both places and then head to Norfolk. May be easier then having them move one of our houses stuff and then having to figure out how to get hte other half ourselves
