OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

Comment by Kac46047 on July 26, 2011 at 4:49pm: Called housing today, from what it sounded like we are on the waiting list 1-3 months, starting now not when he reports. She said something about him detaching from his current command this week so thats when the wait starts.

Comment by J on July 25, 2011 at 6:49pm: My husband and I just did our first PCS and we were told the same thing as you Kac. We went to the housing office our first day here, but there wasn't anything available for almost a month, so we decided to go with off base housing. We spent 12 days at the Gateway Inn before we got into our house. The Navy reimbursed us for 10 of those days, so that's where the number 10 is coming from, and we paid for the other 2 days ourselves. It was stressful and I'm glad it's over with! : )

Ughh, i need ot figure this out lol. Its starting to look like were not gonna mov on his 2 weeks leave instead we have to have leave then he goes back then he'll have to return to help me move. Hopefully he will get time off to move me.

They were told that it was because it was their first PCS.... dont know why that matters...

On the positive side, once you are are settled in, you can be the expert on that area and guide the other new wives. (yeah, that's a comfort in this time of stress)

Comment by Kac46047 on July 25, 2011 at 9:21am: Yes we have a sponser and he's helped up some, but doesn't really know much about military housing. (most people that go to this command are older, says the sponser, so they usually go off base)

I was under the impression like what you said, onece he gets orders and fills out the paperwork we should be on the waiting list.

Im gonna have him call again, I just dont think we should have to wait untill he reports to start our waiting period. Especially when he called the estimated wait time was less then a month. I think its classic signals crossed, its just so frustrating haha.

Yes the ten days sounds right, thats what i thought. My husbands calls me and says they will put us in an apartment ntill housing is ready. From being on here I told him I thought that was to good to be true and that its more like 10 days in the navy lodge.
