Drive one, put one on a dolly.

Ah, okay :) I think I will dive more into it once I find out if we are moving for sure or not. Which will hopefully be within the next month or so. Thanks Anti M!

Yes, they do two cars. Google it, and if you can't find it, I will later on my laptop.

Thanks, Anti M I thought I read that somewhere but wanted to double check. That's a bummer, especially since most families today have more than one car. Would they reimburse two cars if my husband drove one and I drove another? There's a possibility we will be relocating to California this summer... so I'm exploring options early :)

Bronco, no, they do not in CONUS (continental US).  That is out of pocket, or you drive it yourself and get reimbursed.

Hi again everyone! Question here... does the Navy pay to ship a vehicle to a new duty station?

Comment by abuon18 on November 11, 2015 at 8:09pm

Bronco14, yes his C school was in the same location and we knew that when I moved out there. We knew his whole pipeline before he even left for bootcamp. We didn't want to wait until he got his official C-school orders for the Navy to move me out there so we did it on our own. In fact, his C school was so long that they required spouses to move to San Diego and live with their husbands/wives - one of my husband's classmates and his wife had decided that she would stay at their home (she had kids, a job etc) until he finished school, but eventually the Navy told her she had to move to San Diego because they were providing him housing and paying BAH for her in Florida.

19 weeks is a long time, and that is not including hold time. However, there are so many unknowns as to what will happen after. Do you know if he will have a C school? A lot of Corpsman C schools are a lot shorter than what my husband's was (between his A and C schools and including hold times, it was 2 years from when he started bootcamp to when he got to his first ship). Then you are faced with another move, maybe 6 months after you first moved, with the cost coming out of your own pocket, again. So for me, if my husband's school wasn't so long I would have waited until he got his permanent orders and moved there because that is a lot of moving, a lot of stress finding an apartment, a short term job (because unless you are married he won't receive BAH to help pay for housing and you won't be allowed to live on base), and a LOT of loneliness - 4-6 months really isn't a lot of time to make friends but it is a LONG time to be lonely, especially while your boyfriend is busy with school. He will have free time but his school responsibilities will come first.

My advice is to just save your money through his A school, visit him a couple of times if you can, and start planning for a move to his permanent duty station once he gets his orders. Good luck!

I moved to San Antonio while my husband was in A school (corpsman as well). What questions do you have?

Comment by Bronco14 on November 11, 2015 at 6:44pm

Okay so not too long. Did he have C school in the same location? My boyfriend's A school will be 19 weeks... and I am debating on whether to move there or not. I've got the overwhelming sense that I shouldn't because it is not for very long and because he will be working/learning a lot. (Corpsman school)

I don't remember how long he was on hold for, but he was at his A school location for 4 months before he completed, and then he had C-school also. He is an STG (Sonar Tech - Surface)
