okay about DLA; would my husband have to apply for this? what is the process or where do you begin? i asked him about it and he had no idea what i was talking about so i told him i would look into it and then have him finalize it. (i also take care of the necessary things lol)

SSL, you've got the right mindset. You should be very proud of your foresight and discipline. How are you liking Tucson and the U of A? If you happen to find El Minuto Cafe on S. Main, think of me - I miss their great Mexican food!

Oh. I see. We are already in the process of re-saving for our move in to '13. To each his own.

But I am glad the Government is looking out for military members when they are thrown into a lurch.

I found this on NavyTimes.com:
Government-paid moves and travel allowances often fall short of actual costs of permanent change-of-station moves. The nontaxable dislocation allowance covers some of that extra expense. For 2010, the allowance, based on rank and whether a member has dependents, ranges from $842.51 to $4,223.71.

For dislocation allowance rates, visit www.militarytimes.com/money and click on “Pay Charts.”

PCS means Permanent Change of Station. All moves to a new duty station are PCS moves. What you are thinking of is the full Navy packout of your household goods. They come and pack everything, in fact, you are NOT supposed to pack anything yourself as it voids the moving insurance. You do not need an address, they ship it to the secure Personal Property warehouse at/near the new base. When you find your new place, you contact the PPO (personal property office) and arrange a delivery.

A DITY move means you box it, you put it on a truck and you drive it there yourself. There is also a thing with Pods, but I don't know how it works, it is new to me and no one has outlined their experience with it here.

Why are you being dislocated (Or are you just PCSing)? I know my friend Maggie got some of their PCS money ahead of time. Is that the same thing? We try to always have a few thousand dollars saved up just in case we have an emergency or a surprise move (which has happened twice to him).
