Glad to be of help Sue C! I was worried the 1st time it happened to me because none of my family members seemed to have any concern about it. After I informed them of the possibilities, they were there to support me!
Thankful that damage was not very bad on Oahu and praying for the islands who received damage can return to normal soon.
The ships and subs at sea do not feel the tsunami wave. Because the ocean is so large, it spreads out more. The problem caused by tsunami waves is when they hit land. There is nowhere for the power to go but up and that causes the damage.
Subs also cannot prepare and leave the Harbor as soon as ships do. They need more time to get the power up, etc. So they usually stay in the harbor unless they have many, many hours to prepare. When the tsunami hit last year, my son told me about the time involved.
And the navy takes great care of our Sailors in situations like this. I personally think it is because they spend so much money to get them to where needed that they would not want to blow that money by putting them in harms way for weather!
My sailor called me at 1:30 am this morning to tell me about the warning and earthquake so I would not hear about it on the news this morning and worry. I really appreciate him doing that for me.
we have not flew yet but our son flies American but stops in LAX
check the Navy Lodge.com website and there other lodging around the area.

thinking of Pearl Harbor weather
it is cold here in tx
Try TripAdviser.com. You flag the trip you need and it will give you updates on prices. It will depend on how far in advance you can book your flight. Also try Kayak.com. Kayak will give you prices from all the different "cheap sites". A lot depends on what time of year you are flying also.
I did get a cheaper flight one time when my son found out 5 days before he could fly in that he would be on vacation.
Once you find a price and flight you like, GO TO THE AIRLINE'S WEBSITE TO BOOK. That way you do not have to pay any fees that some of the "cheap" websites will charge. And, if you need to change something, you can do it directly with the Airline.
Good Luck.
Welcome home USS Olympia!!! The sub returned to Pearl Harbor on Friday, Dec 17th after a 6 month deployment. Bravo Zulu!
I am so happy that my sailor will be spending Christmas with us for the first time in a long time.
