FFG = frigate
DDG = destroyer
CG = cruiser
I think the G in all three is for 'guided' as in guided missile cruiser, etc.

In my experience it also matters if they are in home port. Even for FPO addresses, if they are home it might only take a day or two extra. But when underway it varies greatly. The sooner you mail it, the better!

Hi everyone its been awhile. My son is doing great at Pearl. I see by reading everyone comments that friendships are being made :) By the way to mom of Drew not only you, submom and Deb but my son is also on the USS Cheyenne. He is an ET/Comm. Mom of Drew I see your boy is an ST, Deb's boy is a FT, and submom boy is a Machinest Mate. I wonder if they have met since they have different jobs. It would be great that they have and are becoming good friends. My best to all :)

My sailor re-enlisted this week for 6 more years! I am proud of him and his accomplishments over the last 4 years and know he will continue to succeed in his job.

Linda, if you do a search for your sub's website page - there is generally contact information there and it will include the ombudsman's email address. I would send her an email, you will need to tell her your son's name. She may need to verify with him that she can communicate with you if she does not have you on a list already. If you need help finding the website, let us know.

Linda-Josh's Mom - My submariner is on deployment also. If the boat is "on mission" there are no outgoing communications. They only receive communications such as emails.

My sailor told me this before he left on deployment. He said it could be 5 or 6 weeks or more without hearing from him. He said just keep sending emails and he will reply whenever he can.

Staying in touch with the Ombudsman will help you feel better about not hearing from him. Mine lets us know anytime she hears from the boat, but she usually doesn't hear from them any more often than I hear from my son.

Is your son on a Fast Attack or Boomer?
