Yes, mom of drew, it is okay to name the sub. Just no last names or dates of impending trips or that type of thing.

Welcome to the group. My sailor is on the Olympia based at Pearl Harbor. He is an ET/Nav.

I hope everyone is having a great summer. My sailor is on deployment and I miss his conversation, but am trying to enjoy summer anyway.

That, I do not know. I am sure someone else will know.

My son is also on a Fast Attack sub. 6 months is a normal deployment, but it can vary somewhat.

Good Luck with the dream list!

My son is a nuke on an Attack sub in Peal Harbor. His deployments are typically 6 months or so. A Boomer sub stays out around 3 months. An attach sub will hit more ports then a Boomer. There are more subs in Hawaii, then San Diego but more Boomers up in Washington bases. Not sure how the east coast.
Hope that helps.

rodney - How much communication you receive while your sailor is on deployment depends on if he is on a ship or a sub and whether or not the boat is on a mission.

I know that on a sub you can send emails as often as you want, but if the sub is on mission you will not receive any reply.

I went to HI at the beginning of the year. I will tell you of my experience.

I watched the travel websites for about 3 months to be sure I got a good price on my flight. We went in January and I made my reservations at the end of September. Our flight from OK to Houston to Honolulu was $655 which was very good. I checked all the websited like Kayak, bookingbuddy and cheaptickets.com.

When I found the price I liked, I went to the airlines website to book the tickets. That way I did not have to pay any fees to get the price I wanted.

We stayed at the Navy Lodge which was very nice. You cannot make reservations until 60 days before your arrival. The price was very reasonable compared to other hotels. I think a room with double bed and small kitchenette was $79 per night.

We went in January because that was the only time my sailor knew he would not be out to sea.

Good luck.
