RE: Navy Lodge Pearl Harbor

You cannot book until 60 days prior to your stay. I had to wait until Nov 1st to book my January 1st visit. Calling does not help. I had no trouble reserving 2 rooms, but had to make 2 separate reservations. Limited to 1 room per reservation when I did it.

The Navy Lodge at Pearl Harbor is very nice. It is on Ford Island.

We arrived after 8 pm and had to wait at the office for someone to come give us a pass. Took about 20 minutes.

Definitely go to the Arizona Memorial. The film you have to see to begin the tour will give you a new perspective on Dec. 7, 1941.

A Luau is another good one; be sure to see the North Shore also. The beaches are prettier than in Waikiki. Eat from a Shrimp Truck/Stand. The food was fantastic!

Welcome Brittane216. This is a great group for support and info but if you have not already check to see if there is a group set up for his ship yet. I find those groups are really valuable when the ships are deployed.

Thought this information maybe of value to our sailors...
FREE MILITARY VITA TAX CENTER 2010: Last year, the VITA Center filed over 3,000 returns for service members and their families, saving more than $150,000 in tax preparation fees while assuring over $2,000,000 in timely returns. This service, though under the oversight of the Naval Legal Service Office (NLSO) Detachment Pearl Harbor, is a volunteer service provided by Sailors for Sailors. The NLSO Detachment Pearl Harbor and Navy Region Hawaii will assist active duty military, their dependents, and military retirees with the preparation of tax returns and provide training on e-filing and the resources available to complete tax returns. The tax center will open 1 February 2010. The hours of operation will be Monday through Friday from 0900 to 1200 and 1300 to 1600. The center will be located at the Navy College, building 679 in classroom 11.
Please advise all service members to bring their W-2's and all applicable tax documents.
Contact LTJG Gordon or LTJG Rohlfing at 473-1411 or 473-4698 for more information.
