I have been trying to get my son to ship his car down to HI. He has been there a yr now and no car. He relys on his friends, I guess. I just want it out of my driveway too. It is sitting here rusting and it is a Kia Sportage 2008. I hate for it to be sitting here and he is paying on it too. Now though, he is on his ship out to sea and so he won't be able to get down there until next year sometime. I may ask him if he wants me to sell it and him buy a car down there. Haven't heard from him to ask him yet though.
We went to Hawaii to help my son buy a car a few weeks ago. We went to Cutter Chrysler Jeep Dodge located at 800 Ala Moana Blvd. Honolulu and Vincent helped us. My son got a nice used car for a great price. We also used USAA for the loan and insurance. They were very helpful. And we put an alarm on the car at Car Audio Tech at 916 Queen Street Honolulu. All the places and people were very helpful. Also make sure to buy the extended warranty and gap insurance on the used cars. Mechanics can be very expensive in Hawaii from what we were told.
bn4givn - tell your son to be very careful buying a car. There are some disreputable (???) places on the island that will take advantage of new military residents. Have him talk to his shipmates and check with the MWR, etc. before he starts shopping. My son has been on the island for almost 4 years now and learned a lot from his shipmates.
Hello! My son just arrived at Pearl Harbor on July 2nd, still going through processing,it's taking forever. Delay after delay! He's very anxious to buy a vehicle so he can get around easier but not wanting to get into debt right away!
