Adam's Mom, they have to know each other. Tim is in steam/boilers and now is the lead Petty Officer. Freeze pops! great idea. I know they have a freezer now. I will be sending those them in my box also. If Adam's shop doesn't have a freezer have him get in touch with Tim. They seem to have more connections on the second deployment :-). If you want to personally email me my email is debbiegordon1091@gmail.com. I live in Colorado. This is my son's third year. As I stated he will re-enlist and also be doing shore duty. He is planning on taking classes while he is on ship this time. Definitely has a plan this time. He is not going to waste his liberty time on partying (so he says).
My son's email address is his last name, first initial@lha5.navy.mil I am not sure if you try emailing Paige using her last name first initial how it doesn't hurt to try.
Hello Snickerdoodlemom, Navymom, and proud Mom,
Welcome to the group. I know this is a tough time for everyone. It sounds like everyone has the same type of questions. Hopefully everyone has their sons or daughters email address on the ship. If not try to get it. Also, the comment on making sure they have enough t-shirts and socks are true. My son was explaining how they had to do laundry sometimes and having those extras sure helped him. As I posted before the flat rate boxes are the best way to go. They come in small, med. and large and you can get the boxes free from the post office. There is no weight restrictions on these boxes. Some ideas to send. Any food that you can add hot water to to make something is great. Packages of condiments, (hot sauce, brown mustard, sweet and sour sauce etc...) anything you can add to individual drinks, and of course your homemade cookies and candies. Using a vacum sealer does help.If anyone would like to talk to me personally my email is debbiegordon1091@gmail.com. I am here to help. I know what it was like during the first deployment and like all of you I felt lost. This time is different. Julie (Adams Mom) is right the ship is on a journey that was planned well in advanced. Yes last time they did go to Pakistan and provided relief effort for the flood victims. They also went to a third world country and was able to interact with people that were not as fortunate as we are. Take a deep breathe. The Navy will not put them in an unsafe area without protection. There are two other ships that are traveling with them to also keep them safe. I know it's hard ...... especially for those who have just came out of boot camp. You will be amazed how your sailor will handle everything. They are in good hands. Everyone on that ship looks out for each other. They are one big family now.
Yes, he will be arriving in Hawaii on Monday to meet up with the Peleliu. He is Aircrew right now undesignated. Stationed in Coronado. He was asked last Friday to go. He is really excited about it, but has alot to do in just a few days that could have taken a month. It's all good!!!! This is going to be tough on me Mom...but I was here on this site for bootcamp and got through!! Just have to pick up some boxes now and custom forms because I know he isn't totally prepared with items. Half his stuff is already on the ship, the second Sea Bag is going with him on the plane...
