My son is stationed in Coronado.   He got word last Friday that he will be on this deployment, actually meeting the ship in Hawaii on Monday .   He is trying to get everything done in 1 week.      Is there anything specific you can think of that we might forget.    He is getting a Power of Attorney for me done this week before he leaves.     Also, we are thinking that suspending his Verizon Smart Phone is probably best...what did everyone else do with the phone situation? Please advise quick...I won't have time to see him prior to leaving but was with him right after Rimpac a few weeks ago.    How much cash did your Sailors take with them?

I am getting ready to send out a box to my son in law...I see things like instant coffee and adds to water drinks....so, do they have a microwave in the room? I know it sounds like a silly question but this is our first go-around and am not sure what they have access to. All I know is that they have a small area to sleep in and possibly bunks?  can anyone shed light on this for me so I have a better idea as to what to send?

You are very welcome.  I am glad it helps.  It must be tough being on a ship with that many males.  She will grow tough!  The girls I met have a good on their shoulders.  She will achieve her dreams .... I have a feeling.

Thanks for all your helpful info Paige works as a ABH on deck I believe there are just 2 girls in this job! Paige is an airman and hopefully someday going to become a pilot it's a big dream! But Paige has always dreamed big!! Paige's dad is a chief engineer and just retired from the merchant marines, so I have an idea what your son does!

Hey Paigshleyship, we are from Colorado.  He works in the hull of the ship dealing with the generators.  He is in charge of this area.  As far as the packages, go to the post office and get the pre-rated boxes otherwise you will pay a ton in postage. They have small, medium and large boxes and they don't charge you for weight.  They charge for the size the same amount all the time. The average time for a box to get there is 2-3 weeks.  My son has been in for three years and started out loving the Navy and then hated it and now has decided to re-enlist. I am happy about that.  The Navy has made a huge change in him.  You will be very surprised the next time you see your daughter.  Keep in touch I am here with you.  I totally understand!

Thank you goober mom for your kind words, of support! And thank god as I always saids for this website, it got me through boot camp and a school, hoping it will do the same this time! I will send Paige out a box great idea! How long does it take for them to get packages? This deployment is going to be really tough I'm me my daughter is my best friend! She loves the navy I have to keep telling myself and she sitting for the petty officers exam, so I am quite proud of her!!! I just hope she stays safe content and happy! She has a tough job and works a lot of hours, so for her the time probably will go by quicker, than for me with to much time on my hands! I pray for her safety every day! God willing I'll get through this, without totally loosing my mind!!! Thanks for letting me share hopefully this group will expand in time!
