Sorry navymom.  I didn't see your latest message.  Count on a package getting to them in around 3 weeks.  Definately send pictures (don't forget the furry friends), newspaper clippings on things of interest.I made a calendar so he could mark the days down.  Each month had a picture of a family member and I included a personal note from each of them.  I also would suggest sending cookies or brownies if you have a seal a meal machine.  DVD's are good, I include packages of condiments because the only condiment they have on the ship is ketchup.  You can get koolaid tablets that all you have to do is add water.  Gum is another big item.  When they do their stops to help under privelaged people they like to give gum to the kids.  Any food item they can just add water to are great items.  Chances are they know someone who has a microwave.  These are some suggestions.  Think outside the box.  No matter what they get, they look forward to mail call every day.

Hello everyone!  I haven't heard from my Son in a couple of days.  I am sorry to here Paige is not feeling well. I remember when my son got really sick on his first deployment.  It hung on for quite a long time.  I don't know if he got sick from all the shots he got or if it was something he caught.  I am sure being in confined areas as such is a breeding ground for everything.  It doesn't help that the job still must go on.  They can't call in sick. :-(.  Hopefully she recovers soon.  Positive thoughts to all.

Thanks Magaritas I appreciate the wish.  I spoke to my son and everything is going well.  He also mentioned an inspection.  Because of this he is having work more.  That is probably a good thing.  Keeping busy hopefully passes the time. He stated the next port will probably be in about 2 weeks.  That's all the information I can give. We devised a system so I can track him. Our own little code. :-)

@goobemom, happy birthday to your son...  I hope that he was able to celebrate with some of his friends that he's with, or was able to relax a bit.

Thanks Navymom120.  Your son will be emailing and facebooking like no other.  I know mine does.  I also would love to live in San Diego however the cost is too much and I don't know if I could deal with the traffic.  EEEEEEKKKKK. My son thought that he would get leave when the deployment is over however he mentioned that might not be happening because he has just gotten word he has to go on another 3 month deployment when he gets back.    We aren't stressing on it yet.  We don't know details and you usually don't until the last minute.  So... when it comes to leaves, remember they can change at the last minute.  The Navy owns them right now.

I know you miss him and it is worse around the holidays however keep in touch.  It's great when you have other Navy Mom's that understand what you are going through.

Good Morning everyone.  Today is my Son's 21st birthday.  Kind of sad not having him here to celebrate.  It's okay though.  We will make up for it.  I spoke with him this morning via email and he said everything is status quo.  There have been times where the ship does not get to port for a very long time ( The last deployment they went about 100 days) don't panic their first port won't take that long.  So.... until then, keep writing them and letting them know what is going on in the US.  Keep them up to date.  They will appreciate it.

I have been receiving emails from my Son.   I did suspend his cell phone yesterday. Going to work on getting some more stuff together for his care package this morning, picked up some of the flat rate boxes and customs forms yesterday.  So often I wonder just where they are..

Hello everyone!  It is Wednesday and by now the ship is out to sea.  The long journey begins.  Hopefully everyone has contacted their loved ones and gotten their email address and shipping address resolved.  Something you may want to do is have people that know them start writing letters to them.  The one thing my son looked forward to was the mail call.  He wanted something physical (as small as a letter) from home.  Please encourage your friends, families, schools, groups, to write them.  Remember one of your goals is to put a smile on their face.  You will be able to do this by involving others to care.  Just a helpful hint.
