Hello to Mike's mom, Lynn..my name is Nannette and my daughter, Megan, is in A school in Meridian right now.  She has been told that she'll be going to the CVN72 in Everett, Washington thereafter.  My question is this...when they are assigned to a ship, then that is where they will actually live no matter where the ship goes, correct?  I've heard that the CVN72 is supposed to have a new home in Norfolk VA in May, 2012.  Will that mean that she will be relocating to VA at that time?  Also...your son works as a PS on his ship, right?

Hi all! I'm new here as my daughter just arrived at Meridian last week. I'm looking forward to chatting with you all and reading the stories. Have a fine Navy day.

Cheryllynn - Yay for you! I was hoping that my Sailor would get Norfolk or Boston. We could just get in the car and go visit him for the weekend. This will definately be a little tougher! However, it's what he wanted, so... I"m happy for him. He should be home next week for a month's leave so I am anxous and the family is also to see him before he goes.

YAY!!  Congrats.  Will you get to see him before he goes?  I hope you do.   My son will be coming home from Diego Garcia in January for a few weeks.  He then is going to Green Bay...  back in the states!!!  Cannot wait.

My son said he's done with A School this week! Then he's Japan bound!

Well, he is on Verizon plan, so I need to find out his address to ship him his phone, but I'm sure they have pay phones in the training building??

MOSTELE - What cell phone service do you have?  We have T-Mobile and my daughter got VERY little service out there.  Meridian is apparently kind of in the middle of nowhere ... she had to go stand in one specific spot in the middle of some field to get even one bar of service.  As a result, I didn't hear from her very often .... :-)

Well, my son is by now in Mississppi... no call yet though....

It took my daughter about 5 weeks to actually get through the classes --- plus about 2 to class up and then 2 more waiting for her orders out of there.   She had to go through some extra security measures though because she was being stationed at recruiting headquarters ...

It took my sailor 8 weeks...and yes, they go at their own pace pretty much and are able to go as fast as they want...from what I've gathered...

Things are pretty boring there, not much to do so they like to get it over with and move on...lol
