For the privacy and safety of you and/or your sailor, NO LAST NAMES ARE ALLOWED, even if your last name differs from that of your sailor (please make sure your URL address does not include your last name either). Also, please do not include your email address in your user name. Go to "Settings" above to set your Username. While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!

Join groups! Browse for groups for your PIR date, your sailor's occupational specialty, "A" school, assigned ship, homeport city, your own city or state, and a myriad of other interests. Jump in and introduce yourself! Start making friends that can last a lifetime.

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security
Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.
DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.
DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

In light of observed changes and impact of the Coronavirus Delta Variant and out of an abundance of caution for our recruits, Sailors, staff, and guests, Recruit Training Command is restricting Pass-in-Review (recruit graduation) to ONLY fully immunized guests (14-days post final COVID vaccination dose).

Hey there! Just a place for family of SRs in Ship 09 (USS John F Kennedy) Division 146 to get together and chat, ask questions, and discuss whatever. :) I'm new to this, so anyone who has a heads up on anything regarding the ribbons (LaLa Ribbon Queen I believe is who we need to contact) and stuff like Sarge's Meet-and-greet, feel free to enlighten the rest of us!

Made ours at Residence Inn. Talked with some other moms whose SRs recently graduated that stayed there and said it was really nice. Time to start racking up my marriott rewards points for free stays down the road while hubs is in CT for a school! haha

I am a new member. My son is 20, and is in Ship 9 Div 146. We are from New Hampshire. Looks like a wide geographic distribution of SR's. This is the second time my son has left home, I thought it would be easier for me than other moms. . . and I guess it is, but it harder than I thought it would be! Mostly I'm thrilled for him, proud and excited.

Welcome! Yes, the recruits do seem to come from every corner of the US, haha! But that's also why most recruits are somewhat sick during basic. People from all over, bring germs and bacteria from their parts that others aren't used to. Thankfully, it's typically just colds they experience and have no problem pushing through their training. :)

I would try one of the small Airports if to can, O`Hare is closer but it`s much bigger and more difficult to get through. We used Midway in 2008 and thought is was better simply because it`s easier to get in and out of.

There are three airports 'near' the base. Chicago O’Hare International is 30 miles from RTC; Chicago Midway is 46 miles; and Milwaukee’s General Mitchell International is 49 miles. Keep in mind that although the Chicago airports are closer, take a look at what their delays usually are this time of year. I know today they're on 30 min delay for strong winds in Chicago. But, if you're arriving the day before, guess it won't much matter. In my opinion, Milwaukee may be the best choice to avoiding sitting in too much traffic. Just a straight shot down I-94 to GL. Pretty much a straight shot UP I-94 from O'Hare too, just depends on the time of day you're arriving as to how bad the traffic may be. Midway is a little deeper into the Chicago mess, but I've never heard much about it either, so can't tell you much about that airport.
You will most likely need to arrange to rent a car from the airport. Don't believe any of the hotels near the base have an airport shuttle. Most do have a shuttle to PIR, but it is for a fee (I've heard anywhere from $7-$15) so I would definitely inquire at the hotels you're considering prior to booking.

OH! Also forgot! When you book your hotel stay (even after, you can call and check/change your reservation), ask if they have a NAVY GRADUATION DISCOUNT! I had already made our reservations, THEN read through the brochure sent with the form letters. Though our hotel (Residence Inn) wasn't advertised on the brochure as a graduation special, I called anyways and asked. They DO have special rates on two different types of rooms. Unfortunately, the room we booked was the two-bedroom/two queen beds and sofabed, and it wasn't one of those included. We could have switched to one of the other rooms though. So definitely CALL AND INQUIRE ABOUT DISCOUNTS! :)

I also think rates depend on where you are flying to and from. Sometimes the rates are better when you fly with bigger Airports. At least that is how things are here.
