After speaking with my SR I have learned there are several of them (20+) going on to Corpsman school in San Antonio following graduation, he also said they will be leaving as a group at X time, following a few hours of liberty on PIR day. If you have any information you would like to share, maybe something your SR has passed along regarding the transition to A school, please do so. If you have specific information, such as when they are leaving, please send me a pm, we are trying to arrange our schedule to be with him at the airport when they leave. Thanks in advance!

We'll be at Sarge's...it sounded better overall.  We're staying at the Residence Inn.  Leaving thisafternoon after my husband gets off work!
My son wants to do the fleet marine school but he was told that it would depend on grades in A school; they get a list of assignments and the top grades get first pick and on down.  He enlisted in March and other than A school, they told him they couldn't tell him what he would do after that.  He REALLY wants to work with the marines, though, so I hope that they didn't screw up at MEPS and not do something they should have done then.  We are already in South Caroina so he wants to go somewhere else.  Of course, I'd LOVE it if he was close to home!

@ 4my-School is closed Dec. 14 to Jan. 4th, heard also Dec. 18th to Jan. 2nd, so we know for sure it's 2 weeks, just not sure exactly those dates. My son likes his roomate but does not start school until Dec., he was supposed to start Nov. 7th, but now it changed, he said when they check in Monday, it could change again. It's so so so nice to have a connection with him again, via text and phonecalls, I missed that so much. At this time they have about 5 days (2.5 days per month) acrrued for time off, so just because school is closed for 2 weeks does not mean they will have off the whole time, or that they will get to pick the dates they come home. They were out shopping for cleaning supplies this morning!

@jacketfan-please keep in mind that his orders are based first on the needs of the Navy, my son wants to go FMF as well, but we know that if the Navy has no openings available to do that, he will choose from the list of what the Navy needs at that time. Their grades help give them a better position in choosing from that list, but the Navy will decide what's on that list.

KimberlyAnn...I knew about the list; just surprised me when someone else's recruiter told them that theirs got to do it when they enlisted.  I didn't think it worked that way, but sometimes the recruiters tell them things that aren't true.    It always makes you wonder.   I love being able to call or text now.  That's what I missed the most about boot camp.  I have been letting him settle in so I haven't tried calling yet today.  Hope he likes his roommate.   I know that whatever he ends up doing, he will be happy.  I know he went shopping for cleaning supplies with the rest...after the nightmare of germs they lived in during boot camp, I'm not surprised that they are all going to become clean freaks!

My son sent a picture text and in the background you could see the mountain of cleaning supplies he had!  So many germs at boot camp I don't blame them!

too funny. I asked for pics too, but haven't gotten them yet. Sending a care package as soon as I get his address, he hasn't found the post office yet, it includes a lot of sanitizing wipes and antibacterial soap. This is same kid who had to be reminded to change his sheets! He has been texting all day, and FB'ing. It's so nice to have access to him, I know I keep saying that, but it seems surreal. I am struggling a bit, I don't know why, but my heart is heavy. I knew he would move on from bootcamp, but for some reason, I felt like while he was there it was like football camp, or a wrestling tournament, and extended overnight away from home, but he would be back, and I know he will, but I keep waiting for him to come home and in my head I know he will be home to visit, but in my heart I want him to come home and ask what's for dinner, or throw his hunting clothes in the garage, park in my spot in the driveway, not make his bed, leave his bowl in the sink, something that says he's here. Even writing this, I am crying, I don't know why I am so emotional, we are a Navy family, I am used to this...I am grateful we can talk and text, and I know it's selfish, but I want him home. I am talking to you in a way that I can't really share with my family, because they don't understand, or tell me to accept that he's all grown up now, I guess I just thought it would be easier when bootcamp was over, I kept telling myself if I got through those 9 weeks, it would be easier, but it's not. Ok, gonna take a moment before everyone gets home to find my way out of breakdownville and back to the real world.

I think we all thought that.  I miss my son so much it hurts at times.  It's so nice to know that I'm not alone in the way I feel.  I haven't heard from mine as much as I would like to.  I don't want to be the smothering mother, but I guess I expected that he would be calling me as soon as he got the chance.  Instead, he's moving on with his life.  I know he misses us, but I still want things to be like they were before.  My son did the football and wrestling thing also, and it was really easy to imagine he was just away for awhile.  If you ever need to talk, just message me.  I totally get it.

Is there anything special we should send to them?  I want to send some things, like Ramen noodles, which are gross but his favorite, but don't know what else they may need.  My husband was Air Force, not Navy, and it's been awhile.
