Just got "the letter" today!!  It was great to see his handwriting and hear how things are going.  He had "6 minutes" to write and managed to get a full page in before he had to go!  It sounds like it's going well and I can't wait to see him at PIR!!

Any one else out there with an SR in the same ship/div?

Hi SubMom - My son is Ship 12 Div 369 so we're brother divisions.  I just got the letter today too.  He had "5 minutes" to write and all I got was 4 lines.  You got a full page?????  Awesome!

That's great to hear!

It was really great to hear from him and it sounded like he was in good sprirts, so I was pleased about that.  I think tonight will be the first time they get a chance to write home, so I hope to get another letter soon!  Can't wait for PIR in November!  I have checked on flights already and it seems to be cheaper to fly into Milwaukee than Chicago, so that is probably what we will do.  We are flying in from Florida, so it will be nice to have some real winter weather for a change!

I received my letter too. She is very discouraged and needs encouraging words. She is homesick as she hasn't spent more than a week or two away from home. I'm sure it will get better though.
Graduation is on a Thursday Im assuming because Friday is veterans day. Thats ggod because they have an extra day of Liberty!
Unfortunately that doesn't seem to be the case.....I asked RTC if we would have an extra day with our recruits and their response was  "Holiday or not, recruits going out of state for A School will fly out on Friday, Nov. 11 unless there is an issue with ticket availability or their orders."  Not the answer any of us wanted to hear, but was expected.  We can pray that there is an "issue with ticket availability or their orders" and then we'll get that extra day!!!!  Lets pray.  LOL

I know that some recruits go right away, but when my son graduated he spent 1 day with me and one day with his father. We are divorced. Ugh given that there motto is hurry up and wait theres a good chance they wont leave the day after.

I hope you're right.  I'm not planning to leave Chicago until Sunday just in case we do get him for an extra day.  If he has to leave on Friday then Saturday I'll just do some sightseeing.
We are planning on doing the same thing.  We will be flying in Tuesday evening and out on Sunday.  I am keeping my fingers crossed that there will be some issue that will keep him in Great Lakes at least until Saturday!

You're right, that certainly isn't what I wanted to hear!  :(

I was hoping that we would get Friday and Saturday to spend together.  Maybe we will get snowed in and not be able to leave for a few days!!  One can hope!

missmysailor13 -  Sorry to hear that your daugher is having a tough time.  Hopefully it will get better soon.  My son has spent a lot of time away from home camping with his Boy Scout troop, traveling to Europe twice with school, and traveling back and forth to Maryland to visit his girlfriend so I think that has helped him to not be homesick.  I'm sure that once they can call home, receive letters and write it will help.

Your name is submom, does that mean your recruit has decided on subs?  I have a son on the subs in Groton CT.  He's been in for 2 years already.  He's qualifying for his dolphin pin.  I was able to go in his sub "USS Alexandria" 2 weeks ago.  It is far from any luxury boat.  But it was amazing to tour his boat.
Yes, he will be heading to Groton, just in time for winter!!  Both my husband and I are originally from CT, so he will have family not too far away from base.
