amber just wrote it . Very close knit group we have. Best part of my day is there
I searched for the FB page for our PIR but was unable to find it. How is it listed??
lfredrick: The airports to choose from are:
Chicago OHare (about 40 min to RTC)
Chicago Midway (about hour+ to RTC depending on traffic)
Miwaukee (45 min drive to GL, no traffic, cheaper car rental usually, sometimes cheaper air fares).
If your new sailor will be flying out to A School, most likely that will take place from OHare or Midway. They won't know which one until right before PIR. You can visit with your sailor at the airport, so keep that in mind. However, we also recommend that if people can, stay until Sunday just in case your sailor doesn't fly out until Sunday....happens sometimes. If they fly out Sat and you have a Sun flight, you can sightsee after they leave!
For those with sailors staying in GL for A School, for sure stay through the weekend. Your sailor will have Liberty after PIR (once moved over to A School base which happens shortly after PIR is over...takes a few hours), then Liberty on Sat and Sun too. Daytime Liberty only, the sailors must return to base each night.
If you booked at the Marriott, I'm assuming you mean Residence Inn? Marriott owns Residence Inn, Courtyard, and Springhill Suites, all good hotels to stay in and close to each other (4-5 miles to RTC, close to Sarge's MeetandGreet held for you the night before PIR). Be sure to call your hotel directly and ask for the Navy Graduation discount. If you already booked, you can call them and ask if they can apply that discount.
Hello Friends!
"The heart of the discerning acquires knowledge;
and the ears of the wise seek it out."
Proverbs 18:15
FTLW: Didn't think of that....maybe if the daughter brought a buddy with her to the airport with her family....it would work. But they would need to use Sarge's taxi service to return from the airport which is a little pricey! Maybe Sarge would give them a break since they are brand new sailors!
Good Morning!

Sailors in Phase 1 Liberty always have to have a " Liberty Buddy" with them, they never go out alone. Even when they are with their Family, someone needs to be with them at all times.
I am guessing that those Students with no Family visiting still "Buddy up" to go out on Liberty, but have no clue if they would be allowed to go to the Airport.
