lilhitl:  Familes must sign out their sailors from GL base for Liberty during PIR weekend.  So don't think that she would be able to go to airport alone and return to base alone.  She will be advised of this when she checks into A School.

After PIR are the sailors that are staying in Great Lakes for A school allowed to leave the base alone? We have to fly out on Saturday so I was wondering if our girl could come hang out with us at the airport and go back to the base on her own or if they are suppose to always be with someone.

Did I see some where there is a care package you can buy for someone that is going through their PIR. I have a good friend that is graduating on 12/12 and I would love to send her one.

Good Morning!

socalmom21,

You're so welcome!  I printed everything out too and folded the papers in half and kept in a 6 x 9 envelope with the gate pass, list of possible places to eat, turn by turn directions from the airport to the hotel/hotel to both airports (since I didn't know which one my Sailor daughter was flying out of)/one airport to the other airport.  It was a handy size to tuck into the tote bag I was using as my purse that weekend~~  Make sure you have your charger for your cellphone and the one to plug into the rental car if you plan on using the voice-guided direction thing on your cell phone!

You are very welcome, Esmom!  Glad you received such a great call from your SR!

Thank you ( diannep) for the great info. It is very helpful in planning our trip for PIR. I am so grateful for all the encouragement. I heard from my recruit on Thursday evening and he sounded so much better. Made my nerves a little less frayed. I can not wait to see him on Christmas Day!!
