Tom'sMom,

Did you get your SR's ship and division no. from his recruiter?  If so, you are okay if it shows you belong in this PIR group.  Have you received any mail from him that verifies the ship/division?  The only thing you don't have from the Form Letter is the Gate Password and you can get that from your SR when he writes.  You only need that password if you plan on driving to RTC though.  If you are taking Sarge's shuttle, you won't need it.

I did however go ahead and book rooms at the Navy Lodge. Don't want to get caught out in the cold, pardon the pun....

Help!! My son left 11/12. Received the "box" 11/20, but still no form letter!! I tried calling the PAO at RTC, but can't connect via operator or get a real person. I've emailed his recruiter who is the one suggesting the call to PAO to let him know of my lack of success. I'm beginning to panic!! Any suggestions??

I loved this as a kid. I remember anxiously awaiting when my favorite TV's shows would come on each year :-) Enjoy!

Kiwi.Miwi...Our son's cat is named Fuego which in Spanish means fire (because he is charcoal colored).  My son speaks fluent Spanish through school and exchange student experiences.  I have never had a cat and never considered myself a cat person (I have a dog!) but this one has captured my heart and I love him!  Probably partly because he's so sweet and partly because he makes me feel closer to my son who adores this kitty!

Maryjo: what is your sons cats name?! X)

Pirat4eLife:  Southwest Airlines is a great one to book with!  Not only do they have no change fee, but 2 bags check for free!  For anyone else interested, they fly into both Chicago-Midway and Milwaukee.  Milwaukee may be a little cheaper, car rental cheaper, no traffic.  45 min drive to GL.  Midway is further away....hour+ drive to GL depending on traffic.

Hotels we can recommend from others on this site are:

Navy Lodge (about a mile or so to RTC).  Book in your SR's name if you do not have your own military ID.  If booking online shows no vacancy, call the hotel directly as they have cancellations all of the time.

Others are:  Springhill Suites, Holiday Inn Express, Residence Inn, Courtyard....all close together, 4-5 miles from RTC, near Sarge's MeetandGreet held the night before PIR for you.  Near a large Walmart shopping center with restaurants, etc in the area.  Call the hotels directly and ask for the Navy Graduation discount.  They don't hold alot of rooms at that rate, so call now.  No penalty if you have to cancel for any reason up to the day of arrival usually.

Those hotels are located in the Waukegan/Gurnee area.

Also, a hotel actually INSIDE OHare airport is the OHare Hilton.  They offer a day rate for those who just need a room for the day (perfect for those sailors who have to wait all day at the airport for late afternoon flights---some down time with family).  Not sure what their overnight rates are.

lilhitl:  Well, she will have to be excused because she is heavy duty into Bootcamp and her mind is elsewhere! :-)   I guess you could start collecting a little day by day --- things you think she may want.  You can always return home with the rejections!

Kiwi.Mimi...that's such a cute name for your kitty!  Our recruit (our son) had been living in an apartment and going to college and has a cat that we now have living with us for now.  I've never had a cat and he's so funny!  I could nickname him Aigo!
