My4sonsjrbm - The TG's that are not eligible for Adopt-A-Sailor for Thanksgiving have a special meal made for them that day on Base.
The Goodwill are the Folks who cook (daily) for all the Ships on Base. Each Ship has it's own Galley.
Thanksgiving will be treated like a Saturday or a Sunday.
Your TG, 01/09/2014, will remain onboard RTC for Thanksgiving and is eligible for adoption off base for Christmas
Thanks all for your input on where we should spend Christmas. Haven't decided for sure yet, but value your thoughts!
2 questions: Not sure where our son's A School will be...recruiter said either GL or Pensacola. How do we find out? He's going in to ET or FC. Also, what's the difference between this site and the fb site for our PIR group? Are they both monitored by moderators? Just curious.
Good Day!
"But above all these things put on Love,
which is the bond of perfection. And let the
peace of God rule in your hearts, to which
also you were called in one body; and be thankful."
Colossians 3:14-15
My4sonsjrbm: Those who have no family up there to visit on Christmas Day will be adopted out in the community by wonderful volunteer groups (church and others) who provide them with a Thanksgiving meal and lend them cellphones to call their families! It is a great day for them. They bus them over there as a group. So your SR will have a great day! Yes, and keep that phone close....chances are, he will call!
OK. In that case what will the 1/09 PIR group be doing for T-Giving? Well they get a dinner either at RTC or somewhere else? We just haven't heard from our SR yet. We are hoping he gets to call on T-giving? Here's to Hope!
My4sonsjrbm: This PIR group will have Christmas adopt a sailor, not Thanksgiving. The groups for Thanksgiving are 12/05 and 12/12, and the ones for Christmas are 12/31 and 01/09. So hopefully your SR will send you the form to complete and fax to RTC if you are able to go visit your SR for Christmas!
Good Morning All !
I have a question about Adopt-A-Sailor, which groups or individuals take part in this program during Thanksgiving and Christmas? My son went in 13 Nov, ship 13, Div 058.
maryjo,
I think that since your Marine son is older and married and was not around last year at all due to deployment, that I would go to his Christmas celebration. It is alot of work planning and decorating for such a happy event celebrating Jesus' birthday for both sides of the family! He and his wife must be really excited to be able to do this~~ They will surely be disppointed if you are not there.
You will see your SR son only 2 weeks later and most likely (depending on his schooling), he should be able to come home after A school and Christmas 2015~
Like diannep said, he can be adopted out and have a special Navy Christimas! He won't be alone in the barracks...
Blessed Sunday!
" I have loved you with an everlasting love.
I have drawn you with loving-kindness."
Jeremiah 31:3
