N4M's Community Guidelines

OPSEC.

~OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance.

~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.

~Please take the time to read the OPSEC and N4M’s Community Guidelines.

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends".

Happy Thanksgiving!

For those of you expecting letters other than the form letter, they probably have been allowed to write yet.  This Sunday may be the first day that they can.  They usually are not allowed to write for the first 2 weeks of bootcamp, and mail is also held from them during that time as the Recruit Mail Petty Officer is trained.  Occasionally, we hear that a division is allowed to receive/write before the two weeks, but it usually is the two weeks.  Your first letter may ask you why you have written, when in fact, you have written tons of letters.  Just know that by the time you receive that letter, their mail should have been received.

Hoping that the remainder of the form letters arrive soon....did you notice how neat your SR's handwriting was?  Navy Writing.  I was shocked when I received my son's form letter/letters when he was at bootcamp.  Sadly, his handwriting went back to its "chicken scratch" eventually....sigh....

Looking for anyone else in ship 2 div 909 graduating on 1/11/13. Have you heard from your SR yet? My son left 11/7 and have yet to receive the PIR letter. I hope he has received the letters we have been sending. My one wish for Thanksgiving is a phone call. Although not so sure I could talk without crying. Really missing him through the holidays.
Well happy Thanksgiving to all my fellow family members with military personnel...especially those in boot camp with whom we are unable to contact. We may be seperated by space but always together in heart and mind.

Hi everyone, I thought I would introduce myself to you all. I am Lora, know as Lala the ribbon queen :) I am one of the moms on this site who stuck around to help make this experience a little easier for all of you. I have two Sailors, my daughter is an AO at Oceana in VA Beach and getting ready for deployment. She was in the performing DIV of bootcamp and sang in the choir. She had PIR in July of 2010. My son-in-law/her hubby is an IT based at Little Creek in VA Beach. His PIR was in Oct 2010. They both were just promoted to Petty Officer 3rd class and we are so super proud of them.

I am very happy to help you all in any way I can and I look forward to hearing all about you and your recruits. Feel free to friend request me if you like. I hope you all are have a wonderful Thanksgiving. I know it is very hard with your recruits being away but just try to remember this is what they wanted to do and for many they are fulfilling their dream. They are in good hands and you will be seeing them before you know it. The days drag by but the weeks pass quickly. I look forward to getting to know you all and adding some more wonderful friends to my Navy family.

Aww DebbieF that is so nice of your son, :) Maybe I will open the box tomorrow and get a nice thansgiving surprise from him too. I am hoping maybe they will let him call since it is Thanksgiving. I wonder if there is any hope in that. Ha ha. :) I have realized through writing these letters that my penmanship has gotten horrible, I guess its because I usually just type on the computer anymore.   My son is Ship 14 too but he is Division 56. Anyone here in that Division?
