OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind.  In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships."  OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

~OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance.

~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.

~Please take the time to read the OPSEC and N4M’s Community Guidelines.

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends".

Good morning everybody!! 3 days til my family and I fly out to Chicago & 5 to the BIGGEST hug in the world! My prayers are with all the recruits that are going through battlestations this week! My sons last letter basically implied that for him...gas chamber would be done by the time I was reading it, he wasn't worried but I sure was! Hopefully they've passed everything they need to, up to this point. I'm sure BS is difficult and it puts pressure on them to make the correct decisions, but they've been raised well by us and trained well by their RDC's so let's be confident!!!!! Go Navy!!

Flutter fly, too funny. I can just see it! Almost like a scene from Christmas vacation when the Griswalds are traveling in their big ole station wagon dropping luggage behind them! There's a lane of navy moms and there passengers flying past all other vehicles, honking the horn, weaving in and out of lanes....even ignoring the police....just trying to get to PIR to hug our kid!

My son is also going to A school in Pensacola, Florida.  We are staying at the Double Tree.  We plan on attending Sarge's meet and greet...

My son was Div 908, graduated yesterday, flew to A school today. PIR was awesome! I'll upload photos to the 900 division fb page as soon as I get home. I took photos of as many 900 SRs as I could.

We went to Sarge's M&G. Not crowded at all as its in a large venue. The food was good & free, although you can make a donation since Sarge & his wife do this every week! Soft drinks and alcohol can be purchased at the bar. Sarge provides lots of very useful information as the veterans on N4Ms have said.

If your SR is in 909, they will be performing/working their own PIR and won't march in as a division. They will already be in the Drill Hall and if you get there early, you can find them and possibly get early hugs and pictures. My son was Color Guard and he told us where to find him when he called to tell us "I am a United States Sailor".
