DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

OPSEC.

~OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance.

~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.

~Please take the time to read the OPSEC and N4M’s Community Guidelines.

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends".

ATTENTION:  Those with sailors headed to Pensacola.  Can you post when they flew out or are flying out?  There is something going around in the 01/18 group that their Pensacola soon-to-be sailors will have to hold in GL for a few days after graduation.  Just trying to figure out if this is "rumor" or if they really are backed up there.  Some of the SRs were told that they are backed up in Pensacola from "a storm."  There is no storm there now, so not sure what they are talking about.  Thanks!

What a wonderful graduation ceremony!  Everyone looked awesome in their uniforms.  It was so great to see my son!  He looked like he grew taller.  So handsome in his uniform!!  :)   The hours were not enough to spend time with him....but on to A school.....looks like we will be taking another vacation in Florida!  CONGRATS TO ALL!!

Bella--it was good talking with you...Congrats to your daughter!

Hope many of you are with your sailors today...either in GL (or maybe exploring Chicago)...or with them at the airports!

Ftlw sarge just told to ask that so I could get an idea of where the sailors going to Pensacola would be flying out this week
Comment by diannep on January 11, 2013 at 10:31pm

....Ryansmom:  To add to FTLW's post...there are families waiting in the USO who are good about lending sailors cell phones to call their families planning to meet them at the airport--the USO personnel may even do this.  So, if your sailor doesn't have a phone card, I'm sure he will be able to find a cell to contact you.  The USO personnel are wonderful to the sailors and their families and will do what they can go help!

If your sailor is leaving from OHare, like FTLW mentioned below----you can go into their USO and find your sailor since it is before security.  If at Midway, he will need to meet you in front of security.  I think there are ways for you to get in touch with your sailor once you arrive at Midway (if that is where you are going) with the help of the airport staff.  They are used to these sailors each weekend, and love them!  Make sure you have ID so that you can get your airlines gate pass with your sailor!

Enjoy your airport visit!

Congrats on PIR today, everyone!
