OPSEC.

~OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance.

~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.

~Please take the time to read the OPSEC and N4M’s Community Guidelines.

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends".

I love that karens, I was the same way. In boot camp the call it graduation so they that no clue what PIR is. And, I knew more about my daughter's A-school and her rate/job that she did. At first she would say "mom you don't know that for sure" or "they haven't even told us how that will work so there is no way you could know that" within a couple of days at A-school she was calling and texting me asking me questions and telling me to go ask my Navy Moms lol. This site is a great source for all you need to know and learn about the Navy :) I love it!!!

When my son was in boot camp, I used to write him "X amount of days until I see you at PIR" he wrote back and said "I realize I am out of the "loop here" but what is PIR?" When he saw me at PIR he kept saying "how do you know all these things and what was the N4M's you kept writing about?" Made me chuckle that for once he admitted I knew something he didn't!

Really? The recruits don't call it Pass-In-Review anymore?
Comment by diannep on November 27, 2012 at 12:12am

It is a good idea to go ahead and make hotel reservations now.  They are easy to change or cancel, if necessary...usually up to the day before or day of arrival.  Sometimes the hotels do book up....especially the ones like Residence Inn, Springhill Suites, Courtyard.  So go ahead and book your rooms....it will make you feel that much closer to PIR!  By the way, the SRs don't call it PIR.  They may ask you what that is????  HA!  They call it graduation.

Comment by diannep on November 27, 2012 at 12:09am

Kathy:  Is your SR staying in GL for A School?  If so, then you should have daytime liberty through the weekend with your new sailor---GL students move over there right after PIR....takes a few hours, then they call for you to pick them up for liberty for the rest of that day (unless they have "watch"---then their liberty that day is cut short).

If flying out to A School, that usually happens the next morning.  So you would have PIR day with your sailor (until 8 or 9 that night) and then you can visit in the airport with your sailor until flight time the next day.

Hey, Justin's mom...it has been really hard for me too. Just going to the grocery store kills me. She is the one who always hops in and goes along for the ride. Everything makes me think of her.

Hi Christe, I've been having a hard time so much has happened in this last year hoping for a letter real soon. I haven't received a phone call except for the one I got the first night he got there. So nice to be able to connect with other moms going through the same thing. Keep the faith.

Hi, Proud Mom of Justin! I'm Christe, proud mom of Sarah! My girl is also in ship 12 Div 053. There are several of us here! We are busy trying to keep it together, wondering how our SR's are doing. Some of the other moms in our division have posted about phone calls home today. I hope you were blessed with one. I'm still hoping for mine.

I'm booking mine tomorrow! So excited - makes it feel so real! Kathy, is your SR staying in Great Lakes for A-school or flying out to someplace else? That will (approx) determine how long you get with them. Everyone should check out the PIR Reference group - it's definitely helped me out. It's got info about liberty, hotel and transportation reviews, and stuff the SRs might want, etc...  http://www.navyformoms.com/group/pirreferenceinformation
