Cristina had a good idea about all of us getting together for dinner Jan 19 (Thursday before PIR) instead of going to Sarge's Meet and Greet at the Sundance Saloon since there will be drinking there. Cristina and I both have young kids (some of you may also) and don't really want them in that atmosphere. I have been looking around for family friendly restaurants. Here are a few and a link to their Menu. If you are interested in doing this, please leave a comment below and we can figure out which restaurant and what time would be the best for all of us. Also, if you know of another family friendly (no sports bars) restaurants close to the base please leave the name and a link to the Menu in the comments :)
Full Moon Family Restaurant
Rain Forest Cafe (in the Gurnee Mall)
I just saw on FireTeamLeaderWife's page about the Ramada inn doing a meet and greet as well. Here is a link to the one Jan 6, it has the information. http://www.navyformoms.com/events/pir-01-06-2012-ramada-meet-and-greet There seems to be drinking there also, so maybe FTLW will know more about if the atmosphere is kid friendly.
From what I have read, both are kid friendly. Yes, they do have drinking though. I guess it just depends on what you want your kids around. I am looking forward to the Sarge one. I have read that it offers a ton of information.
Well I don't want to miss out on the information.. I just don't know lol. Maybe I can stop in to get the information and if it isn't too bar like we could all stay. I'll have to look more into it haha Thanks for the extra info!
I also read somewhere the Residence Inn has a great info packet about graduation. As far as I know my recruit will be flying out to San Antonio on Saturday so I should have Friday with him. Cristina, me and you can just meet for dinner Thursday if no one else want to lol.
@futureHMwife- sure I'd love too. Is there a Chuck E Cheese around? LOL! No Seriously, I would love to meet you and the kiddos. How old are they?
4 yr old girl and 16 mo old boy, by then my son will be 18 months. How old are your kids? I have a few pics of them on my page haha
Oh cute, well my girls are bigger, 15 and 11 but love babies and little kids! I also think the kids will be bored to death and now finding out the ages of your kids you'll be so preoccupied to even hear any information. I'll check out your page :)
Didn't say I didn't want too...I don't even think I will get to the hotel until 7pm or 8pm with the flight arrival...
Yea I'm looking at Southwest and the only non-stop flight from Jackson, MS to Mid-way will arrive at 8PM. May look into flying Wednesday or picking a flight with 1 stop. I guess I should look into the O'Hara airport too...
Also, it appears to be reserved for the meet and greet. Not open to the general public during this time (from what I have read anyways). So even though there are drinks, it is just the Navy families. Not that this makes a difference LOL. Yes, info on PIR is what I hear. I wouldn't be getting there myself until later too due to flight arrival. I think it is going to be fun. I have also read that not a ton of people come. Hmmm, who knows, I guess we will figure it out as we go along like everyone else. That is the Navy way. Just think about how much advise we will be able to impart. We are all at different hotels, flying different airlines and trying different things. One thing will be certain. WE WILL BE PROUD OF OUR NEW SAILORS!
I agree with you totally!!! It just seem too much to cram everything in one day and consider having to wake up really early for the PIR. We will somehow find a way to meet. The seating arrangement at the Drill Hall is by Div.#. If you see a family of 4, I'm Filipino, my husband is Caucasian and my daughters are 15 and 11 yr olds, then thats us, LOL!
Can't miss us either. I am six feet tall, usually wear an inch or so boot and have big hair (HaHa). Makes me about six feet two. My hubby is six five!
