Good Morning!
For those who will have sailors flying out to A Schools, they most likely will leave the day after PIR (bussed to airports later PIR night). But try to plan your stay in GL until Sunday if possible because occasionally some may not fly out until Sunday so they have more Liberty with you. You will be able to meet your sailors at the airports, and with ID, get an airlines pass to visit with them until departure.
Those staying in GL for A School will move over there shortly after PIR is over. Takes a few hours, then Liberty with you until later that night and Daytime Liberty through the weekend---they must return to that base each night. So plan to leave Sunday night if possible, or even Monday would be better so you don't miss any time with them.
Southwest Airlines has no change fee if you book with them. Two bags check for free. Refundable tickets as RTC suggests are SO expensive! Better to try Southwest into either Milwaukee (45 min drive to GL, no traffic, cheaper car rental and probably airfare too) or Chicago-Midway (hour+ to GL depending on traffic). You can use Sarge for transportation if you don't want to rent a car, but renting a car is more economical since the shuttle/taxi fees will add up! If you book with Southwest, I understand that they send you a code for a discount on a rental car.
Hotels recommended on this site are:
Navy Lodge (book in your SR's name if you don't have military ID)....if it shows full online, call directly. They always have cancellations. This is about a mile from RTC.
Springhill Suites, Residence Inn, Courtyard, Holiday Inn Express are 4-5 miles away, near Sarge's MeetandGreet for you all the night before PIR. Call these hotels directly and ask for the Navy Graduation discount. You can cancel usually until the day of arrival.
Oops...I was laboriously typing away on my phone and did not catch ellen0502's posts. Sorry for the duplicate.
Recruits do not receive Liberty while in BC, with the exception of the Adopt-a-Sailor program for Thanksgiving and Christmas.
The two Senior TG's at the time the Holiday occurs are eligible for AaS.
This year for Christmas it should be TG 8 PIR 12/31/14 and TG 9 PIR 01/09/15.
Your Recruits will be served a special meal meal for Christmas and the day will be treated like a Sunday.
TG11 means Training Group 11.
It is the TG that started training in the 11th week of the military fiscal year.
Military fiscal year begins on October 1st.
It doesn't always mean it is numerically consecutive however. RTC occasionally does not have graduations a few times a year. In that case that TG number would be skipped and the next TG would numbered for the corresponding fiscal week.
However, even if the TG number is skipped, Divisions remain numerically consecutive.
Like this:
TG 5 - 11 Divisions (039-046, 803 and 905-906) Graduate Friday, December 12, 2014. Each recruit will be permitted 4 guests Get gate pass
December 19, 2014 - NO GRADUATION
December 26, 2014 - NO GRADUATION
TG 8 - 7 Divisions (047-050, and 907-908) Graduate Wednesday, December 31, 2014. Each recruit will be permitted 4 guests.
TG 9 - 11 Divisions (051-060, and 909) Graduate Friday, January 9, 2014. Each recruit will be permitted 4 guests
See how the 900 divisions (performance divisions) are doubled up and still in consecutive form.
800 divisions (SPECOP) would do so as well if needed.
navydivamom, The TG number has to do with the Navy fiscal year calendar, which runs Oct-Sept. This TG will graduate in the eleventh week of the fiscal year.
Jennifer, This TG will not have liberty on Christmas day, but they will have holiday training schedule, no training. Christmas will throw off your week/day count by a day, so count it as a Sat/Sun to stay on track.
